Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

1. PSU alums and BWI folks have the opinion that their school has always been on academic par with Michigan and Wisconsin. Not true then, not true now, not true at all. And for all their whining about their football fortunes having been ruined by the Big Ten, they ignore that association with the Big Ten has greatly elevated their academic cred.
2. But a BOT like the BWI nut jobs are assembling will eventually erode the gains they have made on the academic front and will achieve nothing more than self- pleasuring on the football field.
3. Unfortunately, they are too important in terms of TV revenue to kick them out. Or as 45 would say, "Sad."

The Cult is somewhat limited in how much impact their BWI approved crazies can actually have on the Board of Trustees. From what I remember, the alumni are limited to just nine board seats. The grown-ups on the Board will always be in the majority, which is why the Joebots on BWI continually whine about the "old guard" Board of Trustees who refuse to reexamine the Freeh report and come out against the so called "victims."

Of course, the Cult has also been duped by grifters like Adam Taliaferro who used the Cult's stupidity to pad his own resume for personal gain instead of properly fighting for Joesus' besmirched reputation.

As far as BWI posters who view PSU as being on par with Michigan and Wisconsin academically, I rarely see such a comparison made between PSU and the other public schools in the Big 10. BWI overwhelmingly peddles the notion that PSU is superior to the other public schools in the Big 10 and the only public school in the Big 10 where any athlete ever goes to class. Most BWI posters really believe the whole public Ivy label and that PSU is Harvard academically and Alabama in football.

Lord dropped out of the BOT race. Said he was fed up with the victims and PC attitude of the BOT meetings. This pretty much assures that JayPed will be a BOT member. That should provide some interesting meeting fodder.

Whether Lord dropped out of the race or not, Jay Paterno was always a shoo in to get elected to the Board. There has always been zero chance that the Cult will pass up a chance to put a Paterno on the Board of Trustees.

Seen many pedsters say that PSU is more like Cornell than any Big Ten public, but they'll grudgingly let themselves be put alongside Michigan. Most would scoff at being linked to Wiscy.

Their board seems to be a weird setup (I guess like everything else about the place). It's a mix of alumni elected trustees, Governor appointed, Business and Ag seem to have sections too. It also seems to be too big and unruly to properly manage the university, so you have core groups that have formed that hold the real power--I guess something akin to the Politburo vs the larger Central Committee in the old USSR. In any event, the Joesus dead-enders that the alumni put up are a perpetual minority, which is why BWI and Lubrano and PS4RS have made "reforming" the board and upping the percentage of alumni elected members to a majority an end goal. I'm not sure how long a Joesus apostle Governor would need to be in office before he could tilt the board to the cult either, but given its size, I'm not sure that's an avenue for the cult to seize control.

And of course, if the cult ever did seize power, Lubrano would essentially be the de-facto President of the university. Imagine the shitstorm that would result in.

I guess that would be kinda like having Babe Ruth own the Yankees and name the stadium after himself.-- if Babe Ruth would have been a complete fraud who never hit 714 home runs.

I will admit that I only recently learned that the baseball stadium at PSU is actually named after Lubrano in light of his donation to the school in 2002. I can't imagine Joesus would ever support naming an athletic venue named after him as opposed to a library or an ice cream flavor.
