I didn't watch the game (what is Penn State vs. Georgia State doing on prime time, anyway?), but I understand that Penn State was up 56-0, and Georgia State was going for a field goal in the closing seconds. James Franklin called a time out, because, as his excuse goes, they wanted to make sure they had the right field goal defense team. Apparently, the 4th string defense was in the game, and they don't have a 4th string field goal defense. So he wanted to make sure that the correct players were in the game. People outside Penn State are complaining because they think Franklin was icing the kicker.

First, I like this story because Mark Packer was ROASTING Penn State and James Franklin and any Penn State fans who called yesterday. I think a couple of them almost cried. That was good. I'm no fan of Mark Packer, though.

Second, my two cents: Who cares??? Other than the lame excuse from Franklin (if you weren't icing the kicker, and you had your 4th team defense in the game, and you don't have a 4th team field goal defense, just keep your 4th team base defense in the game), I don't care if he ices the kicker up 56-0 or up 159-0. If you're the kicker and you don't like it, then make the field goal. This is similar, to me, to Bielema's "I went for 2 because that's what my card said" garbage. If you want to poop on your opponent, I have no problem with that - just come out and own it. "Yeah, I tried to ice the kicker. Our defense deserved that attempt to ice the kicker in hopes of preserving a shut-out. Shut-outs don't come very often and I wanted to give my team every chance I could to experience that tonight." Piece of cake.

Of course, the cult will believe anything their current leader has to say.

In fact, Georgia State head coach was being a jerk by even wanting to ruin a shut out. HA!

Cmon this is BS and everyone knows it. I have no problem with what JF did considering the GSt. coach was being a jerk trying to ruin the shutout anyway at the end of the game, but JF was fuming on the sidelines that the guy would do it. Great excuse by JF but he knew what he was doing, icing the kicker at the last second to call at TO.

You had 4th and 1 with a quarterback who can run and they still had that Taz guy in who had the 100-yard game. You sneak it, get the first. The clock stops on 1D with 11 seconds to go, you have two shots left to throw it in the end zone and make a touchdown fair and square and have a little accomplishment to take home with you. A field goal try was bush.

I'm glad they missed - that's what you get for being a douche.

Exactly the gs coach should have gone for it.Field goal there was major bush league.

"Trying to ruin the shutout"? I remember my daughter playing some board game with a friend, and being told that if she made a particular move that it wouldn't be "nice." The move would have led to her having some success in the game. Of course, they were five or six years old.

Apparently, other teams are supposed to know it isn't nice to play with their own self-interest in mind. Only an asshole would ruin a shutout.
Or, a weekend.

wait whut..?? so... if the bot.. doesn't publicly dispute..... "this"... somehow, then it is proof the bot supports the ideals and actions of the confederacy and wish to separate from the union?

this post received likes. i want to say something here, but i simply have no words.
Why are you so dense about this? The man is merely saying that the persecution Penn State fans, and their icon, have suffered is very similar to slavery. And that if you support one, you must naturally support the other. Is that so difficult to understand?

Maybe it's in the wrong thread, but Iowa has a thread where they pick PSU players and post a funny picture of a look-alike. Do they do this for every opponent? Anyway, a couple of good ones:
