Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Always a good watch

Thanks for posting, great way to spend coffee-time on Saturday morning. I had three prevailing thoughts while watching that:

  1. Hilarious how much holding psu got away with while getting blown out
  2. A nearly elite team solely because of the offense. This year’s offense will probably be better in almost every way.

  3. That one way in which the 2013 offense, team for that matter, was better than 2020: Carlos Hyde. He’s the one guy on that team that I don’t think the 2020 Buckeyes have a match for. Zach Harrison certainly has the potential to be as good as sophomore Joey Bosa. One of the linebackers might step up and be what senior Ryan Shazier was, though I’ll concede that they might not. The one position group that would surprise me if they matched 2013 is the running backs.

Even if they don’t surprise me though, even though they haven’t played yet, I’ll bet the 2020 offense makes that 2013 offense look listless by comparison. Watching the 2013 offense utterly destroy the pedsters While thinking about how much better this year’s offense is likely to be... well... it made for a pleasant morning in a June that is otherwise devoid of sports

Time to look at what kind of stupid things BWI is saying now.

https://bwi.forums.rivals.com/threads/btn-all-decade-team.271236/

So someone comes up with a Big Ten All-Decade team. With the way that Ohio State dominated the 2010's, I'd have picked a lot more Buckeyes. But I'm biased.

Anyway, BWI has some comments about JT Barrett being named the quarterback.

He was a good, not great QB. Honestly, I always felt we had a chance to beat tosu when he was playing. Not a great passer...came up short in a lot of games he was supposed to win.

He started from 2014 to 2017. Let's count the losses -
2014: Virginia Tech
2015: Michigan State
2016: Penn State, Clemson
2017: Iowa

Is 5 losses "a lot"? Meh. It's relative.
So Virginia Tech - He was a freshman starting his second game. Was he really "supposed" to win it?
Michigan State - I don't blame him, I blame not handing the ball to Zeke more. Maybe they were read-option plays and he kept it more than he should have. But Barrett was the best guy I've ever seen with that offense, as far as making the correct read. So I don't put this on him.
Penn State - Same thing. I don't put this on Barrett. He didn't put the team on his back to win the game, but he didn't let the game slip through his fingers.
Clemson was just a shit show.
Iowa- Possibly his fault. Play #1 was a pick 6. Great. But he wasn't on defense and that defense gave up probably 70 points with the 6 somehow eligible tight ends they had on the field every play.

Is there anybody here who would want Barrett over Trace ?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!

There are 3 games that jump off that page as ones we had no business losing but did (one of them was his 2nd start as Zurp said).....and their own dumbshit team was one of them. Imagine trying to talk shit by saying we weren't better than you but we lucked into a win once.

With this year’s contest shifting back to State College, it’s likely we’ll see another hotly contested game. Even though Ohio State has come out on top in the majority of recent games, the Nittany Lions have given the Buckeyes all they can handle and then some. It wouldn’t be crazy to argue that Penn State has replaced Michigan as Ohio State’s toughest yearly opponent.

I’m not advocating for Penn State to replace Michigan as Ohio State’s main rival, but I do think we have to recognize the Nittany Lions as a rival. Aside from the Wolverines, I can’t think of a team and fan base that riles up Ohio State fans more. If that, as well as the way the games have gone recently doesn’t make the yearly battle a rivalry, I don’t know what does.
