Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Serious question. Has this board ever had a solid poster that was a Penn State fan? With all the traffic we get from opposing fan bases, I would think there must have been some, but since I've been posting on here, I can't remember a single one.

It took me more than 20 years of living in the middle of this state before I found a Penn State fan that wasn't a dickweed about Penn State. Normal, everyday people who are otherwise pleasant to be around are insufferable as soon as they want to talk college football. It's absurd but it's the truth. I know rooting for a specific sports team doesn't inherently make you an asshole, but Penn State fandom seriously tests that theory.

Cults don't generally socialize. That's not a joke. I read most of the B1G's other scout boards, and Ped State has BY FAR the least interaction with opposing fanbases of any of the major programs. They generally don't stray from their own boards. It's one big Paterno-worshipping circle-jerk.

No. Like any good cult be it Heaven's Gate, the Moonies, Scientologists or Texas A&M, they are very uncomfortable stepping out of their safe, reinforcing cocoon. They can't even go to another site to flame, as they find the mere existence of differing opinions and views to be deeply upsetting.

They are like Happy Valley itself: isolated and fully immersed in the smell of their own crap, and that's how they like it.

Conversation with a Penn State fan circa 2003 - this actually happened.

sandgk: So, do you think it's time for JoePa to hang it up?

PSF2003: No, I don't - they'll be back again, just a bad year.

sandgk: Well another one for sure. So, when do you think it should be time for Joe to hang it up?

PSF2003: I don't know.

sandgk: I mean, do you think he should go out after getting more wins than "X" where "X" is Bryant, or Bowden, or name another coach?

PSF2003: Yeah, I think that would be good.

sandgk: Okay. So you think Joe should have already hung it up, like two years ago?

PSF2003: What? No, I don't know, he should stay as long as he wants to!

There's a guy called MarshCreek who was usually reasonable - but he only has 11 posts on BP, none since January 2009.

And UM's an asshole. He was coming to PS before the JS shit hit. I'm glad he didn't come. He's just another in a long line of classless whoremongers that are college fb today.

I heard that shit again this morning at work (in PA). It seems they said it to each other often enough that they actually believe it. I tried to question it logically but it wasn't getting through.

Substitute "Steelers" for "Penn State" and you have my experience growing up in "Steeler Country" nailed perfectly.

The hits just keep on comin' McGloin Questionable for bowl game

Penn State is in the Ticket City Bowl game - but now their QB McGloin is doubtful.
Because he fought a receiver in the locker-room and came up on the wrong end of things (hit his head on the concrete).

Matt McGloin's status for the TicketCity Bowl is uncertain after the Penn State starting quarterback suffered a concussion and a seizure during a fight with a teammate Saturday in the locker room.McGloin on Monday said he was knocked unconscious when he hit his head on the concrete floor of the team's locker room after a brief scuffle with receiver Curtis Drake.
McGloin accepted full responsibility for the fight, which he said included several punches and lasted about 10 seconds.

Don't worry though - the true culprits will be found - Penn State has their best men looking into the fight.

Penn State police and the school's Office of Judicial Affairs are investigating the incident."I started it, but as a quarterback for this university, I should be held to a higher standard," McGloin told reporters at Penn State's bowl media day. "It should not have happened. I should've walked away from it."
