People to Punch, Pet Peeves, and General Vexations (mega-merge)

Holy shit, the property manager for this place is the definition of a cheapskate, and I am beyond pissed off at this point. I'm certain he's not communicating the issue(s) with the AC with the owner, because I can't imagine risking the closing (and/or a good chunk off the sale price) that's scheduled for Oct. 1 for this place over what will be, at most a few hundred bucks on a $200k+ sale if the AC isn't fixed. Getting shitty sleep, don't want to cook and add any unnecessary heat so we're eating out, and generally just feeling miserable in the heat. He actually called the installing company out the other day, seemed like he was going to accept the labor charge for one of the parts that would be replaced under warranty but was livid at what they were charging for refrigerant so was going to have someone else gas it up. I thought they were actually going to replace the part, and the company he called today comes out and...the part wasn't replaced. I'm guessing when the installing company called to get his billing info (they didn't get it on the call I heard where he initially approved the repair) he told them to pound sand on the whole thing. Of course this other company's tech doesn't get out here until after 3pm, and they don't keep the part on their trucks, so earliest they could replace it and give me functioning AC is tomorrow! Fuck this asshole, and I hope this ends up biting him in the ass either by way of the buyer or the current owner wrecking him if this screws up the closing/sale.

Despite (likely) moving back into an apartment almost half the size of this place, fuck it, it has functioning AC and getting it fixed won't be a month long adventure...hopefully. Damn, I am beyond pissed off.

When you have a minute, can you make contact with the owner in some fashion to inform him of how his property is being (mis)handled?

In recent years, I've had a small part in making a couple of heads roll, and it can be quite the satisfying experience.

I'm seriously considering it, but I'm also concerned about a few things that could impact still before we're officially out.

EDIT: Also, it would admittedly be a little creepy, because at no point in the rental has the owner's info been officially disclosed, I just know it because I know how to use the county property appraiser website when I was curious what the property tax on this and similar properties was. The person lives in Toronto, so not even a local, just a disconnected investor.

My wife and I own and occupy 1/2 of a pretty high-end duplex in a wealthy neighborhood. The other half is a rental property with an owner who lives about an hour away. It has a postage stamp front lawn and wide hellstrip totaling maybe 800-1,000 square feet. Despite the fact that it's vacant and she's been trying to rent it for several months (asking price $5,000 p/m, which has been reduced a few times from the original asking price), the "lawn" is 90% weeds and needs to be ripped up and resodded, which probably wouldn't cost more than $1,000 or so (also a sore spot for me because it's really hard to keep my postage stamp lawn and hellstrip in order when both her and the neighbor on the other side (who's about to put his place on the market) don't give a fuck about their weeds). Anyway, the point, which was really to your other post, is that penny-wise pound foolish absentee landlords seem to be common.

I can't even imagine how bad it is in FL without AC. The office AC went out last Thursday (again) dumping water through my ceiling (again). The landlord insists I use her guy and he still has not been here today. It is now 91 degrees in here.

So, my wife and dog were out for an early morning walk today (6ish which is nornal). They were attacked by a Pit Bull whose owner/responsible party had no control over them. My wife released our dog. He is about 50 lbs and a Husky/Shepherd mix so he can hold his own. My wife kicked and beat on the other dog but it wouldn't let off. The other person refused to jump in and take on their dog. My wife finally ran and my dog took off and followed her. She got to her sisters house down the road and was able to get inside.

We have so many people in our area that can't control their dogs or don't leash them and I am getting sick and tired of it. Our neighbor across the street whose wife is a County Judge has two Chows and he lets them run free all the time and same thing they chase after anyone who comes by. What gives the fools the right!!!! I am so pissed off because I am out of town on business and my wife calls me crying this morning and now is not going to want to take the dog out in the morning. I can't blame her, but that is just wrong. What if that had been a child getting on the bus.

I'm considering buying a handgun to carry in the mornings with us when we go out for our early walks.

My wife's (5' and just under 100 lbs) has been bitten a couple of times just walking on the sidewalk. In each instance, the dog owner just didn't give a shit and acted as if she was somehow at fault. Of course, I'm never present when it happens. Dogs tend to reflect their owners it seems.

Seems like there should be at least some nice mace products that would repel a dog. But, you're probably good with the handgun, too, as long as it's legal.

When my daughter was a year old we had a neighbor with two large mutts that he would not control. Recall coming outside and seeing the remains of some poor cat that they'd gotten hold of scattered all over their front lawn--it was literally dismantled.

Then, one day my husband had the kid in her stroller walking her, and the dogs came up to him and tried to back them up. Damn Franklin County dog control wouldn't do anything about them. They picked one up once when it was outside (with a little help from me), then went all limp noodle NC2A-ish and released the dog back to him when he called an attorney. Just my IMHO, but it isn't the freakin' dogs who should be getting shot when they're allowed to roam around aggressively uncontrolled.

Not sure on carry laws where you live, but you can carry one of these legally just about anywhere and dogs stop short usually after the first strike with it:

Well, here's one that I never thought I'd have to list.

Hotels with shared bathrooms.

Just checked into the Mosser in SF and surprise! Shared bathrooms.

Fuck it. One night and the room is clean and nice. Actually, for the two min I was in the room, it is pretty nice. Old hotel... I get it.

But make no mistake about it, I'm having a big breakfast with three meats and eggs (runny) and about five cups of extra strong coffee and wrecking their bathroom on principal.

Same trip, different bitch.

On a flight, when you get out of your seat to let someone use the restroom, get out of your seat and stand in front of your row if the bathroom is behind you (reverse if it's in front of you).

There is zero reason, unless you're Harvey Weinstein, to force someone to rub up against you as they squeeze by in order to get to the restroom.
