Yeah, that self-righteousness will earn you a lot of respect here.

Seeing as you joined on Jul 21, 2011, did you lurk for three years before deciding to join?
Yes just as I’ve been lurking since. I started watching this site during the Mike Adams/Brewster/JB Shugarts and Pryor recruiting year so probably more like mid to late 2007. I found it then thinking the sites for rivals and scout, etc sucked. Not trying to earn any respect but I still believe it to be true. I’ve been following long and closely enough that I feel like I know a decent number of you and your opinions for the most part. Disliking Peppers just as much as the rest of you doesn’t take away my opinion that I think he was a good player.

What is your point that I joined in 2011 have anything to do with it? Trying to discredit My statement that I’ve been following this site daily since 2008 or so? If there are stats for the mods that show clicks they would be able to prove it

Peppers and Woodley for sure, Gary somehow got a 1st round pick after being a total under performer. Otherwise nothing. I do think Daxton Hill will be special otherwise the rest were busts
Congrats on starting one of the greatest off-topic discussions in BP history.

For the rest of you: It's difficult to call a Unanimous All American, Big Ten Defensive POY, Heisman finalist, and 1st round draft pick a "bust".

With that being said, Peppers was almost certainly the most overhyped player in CFB history. A few years ago, I made the comparison to Gordie Lockbaum.....
See below

The closest comparison that I can think of - and it's not really all that close - is Gordie Lockbaum. For those of you who don't remember, Lockbaum was a media darling who played for Holy Cross in the mid-80s. Like Peppers, Lockbaum was a multi-purpose player (CB, RB, WR, KR, PR, and even threw a pass or two). Unlike Peppers, Lockbaum actually produced on the field (4,244 all-purpose yards and 44 TDs in his final two seasons, 5 career interceptions), albeit at a low level of competition. Despite playing for a Division I-AA team, Lockbaum captivated the media to such an extent that he placed fifth in the 1986 Heisman voting and third in 1987. Predictably, Lockbaum was too short/small/slow for the NFL and quickly found a career selling insurance. Today, Lockbaum is the subject of numerous Where Are They Now? stories. Peppers will be in the same place thirty years from now.

Touché, aren’t we all though? Didn’t realize commenting 4/10 players were actually good would matter. I have no idea why they would put a graphic like that out with most of those players

You're not necessarily wrong, you're just trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

You're not going to get objective conversation here about TTUN. Right and wrong are secondary around here to opposing TTUN.

I’d like to still think we can be objective even when talking about our distaste. If we can’t be objective how do you compare say, KyLLLe KaLLLis to a regular player? Just for example

Your seriously think other schools get the same kind of hype that tsun gets?

He goes to Arizona State and no one knows his name outside of the chicks he gives herpes to.
Well a few schools come to mind, Notre Dame, Texas, UMiami, are at least on the same level as TTUN in media hype. That being said, I get it. We hate TTUN, they all suck, none of them are any good

With all due respect, I know more about football than at least 50% of people on this board. And while I know I just started posting, I’ve been reading this board daily for the last 12 or so years. So you wouldn’t take Peppers over Damon Webb?
Also what have I said that makes me crazy or high?
Ah the infamous “I just got here, but I know more about football than x% of people” post.

Yeah, that’s the ticket :shake:

If you are that focused on showing all of us sub 50%ers that some tsun players are actually good you could have picked a different hill to die on than Julius fucking Peppers.

They have actually had some legitimately good players.

He just wasn't one of them.
