Percy Harvin (Buffalo Bills)

You need to look out for the name Chris Rainey this year. He will be very, very good in the Harvin role. If we can get them both on the field at the same time and healthy, I will be a very happy Gator.

HUGE upper body... skinny legs... David Boston syndrome?

Maybe he thought he would lose speed? With how skinny his legs are, especially around the knee joint, I would be surprised to see him play the whole season without getting injured. He has the ball in his hands a lot and will take big hits on the legs, where corners like to tackle. Hopefully (for him at least) he's been working on flexibility.

Sounds like Harvin is a real jerk.

GAINESVILLE -- Florida receiver Percy Harvin started a fight with freshman running back Chris Rainey during fall camp. Harvin is a junior and a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate. He is also, arguably, the most gifted athlete in college football.

But Harvin has a history of assaulting other athletes and is a maverick among his teammates. Will Harvin's poor attitude affect the Gators' chances of winning a national championship? Gator Clause addresses the important topic on this podcast. Run time is four minutes and 21 seconds. Click the play button.
WARNING!!! The link below contains a 4:21min audio clip of Joseph Goodman's thoughts on the incident that plays automatically when opened. For me, it took about a minute to load, and froze the browser until completion. I would not recommend clicking it for those of you sneaking peeks while at work.

Sound like the author is a real jerk. That is a hit piece by a little asshole who writes - I term that loosely - for a paper that favors our rival. It ignores Rainey's mouth, which is always running an often saying something not so smart. Chris is a good kid, but like many studs, ultra competitive. He says to believe Rainey about the fight, but do not believe him when he says that there is no problem. He ignores the fact that Percy has had a rough time since his surgery, and that he played last year with heel pain and migraines in most games. He played his heart out hurt for the Gators last year.

His "history" of assaulting players refers to high school, when Rainey had a fight in basketball, with a kid that supposedly was the instigator.

That moron can hardly read his own copy. At best it is a raised eyebrow and something to watch. Listen to the whole thing, and you will note that he does not have one player on the Florida team say that there is an issue. Not one. As to "cradled", Percy was hurt all year and missed several games. He need to get more than that to infer Percy is a bully who is not a team player. And Fayson left because he was not starting, and did not want to be on the bench. With Percy's injury prone history, that was stupid. But if you do not want competition, go somewhere else.

He was on the local news a lot for problems during high school. I seem to remember him getting barred from competing in high school sports during his senior season, due to a culmination of transgressions. I believe the worst was Harvin pushing a ref during a football game, and the final straw was the fight in basketball, which turned into a bench-clearing brawl.

The fact that Harvin was barred was a pretty big deal, because he was expected to shatter a bunch of state records in track - I think he won a ridiculous amount of events as a junior.

Let me add this. I think that Percy Harvin has improved his attitude 100% since arriving at Florida, under the tutelage of Urban Myer. I know that Myer takes a strong stance against an early signing period for football, primarily to allow the coaches time to seek out the recruit's character and makes sure that they aren't bringing in a bad person. And I believe Myer had concerns about Harvin during the recruiting process, but did his diligence before bringing him in. Here is an old ESPN article that touches on some of Harvin's past troubles and Myer's approach to alleviating his concerns.

If they play to their potential, a Tebow/Harvin/Rainey combo is definitely NOT something I'd like to face.

That is a tough, humbling thing to say. Hopefully by the end of 2008, our guys on defense can give us (and themselves) the confidence to say they can stop anyone dead in their tracks.

(Also I hope UF's defense will continue to suck balls.)
