What are the odds, as of right now, of the bucks getting Koufos and Lauderdale? Also any clue when they might verbal? Thanks Kyle.

I don't particularly want to put numbered odds on them, but Ohio State is the strong favorite for both. I think Lauderdale could verbal any time between this fall and early next spring, while Koufos will probably wait until late spring or summer next year. The competition for Koufos will be Maryland, Duke, Michigan and Xavier.

Koufos missed the last few weeks of the summer with a stress fracture in his leg. Koufos is working hard and has put the recruiting process on the back burner for now. Ohio State, Maryland, Illinois, Duke and Akron are his top schools. Koufos enjoyed his visit to OSU this past weekend and spent time with the other recruits.

Hey 44820, give me your opinion on something. Suppose we get a verbal from Koufas and we know Lauderdale is pretty much ours, do we pull the offer from Solomon Alibi so we can go after a shooting guard?

not 44820, but I say you could take him still and go with Alabi at the 5, Dallas at the 4, and Kosta and Diebler on the wings. You could put any PG in the world out there and that would be the tallest lineups I can possibly imagine and would provide a world of match-up problems for almost any team in the country.

44820, correct me if I'm wrong, but if they get Lauderdale, Kofous, and Diebler and can still land one of Alabi or Love or Pope, they take them without hesitation right?

In my opinion, they will offer the prospects they have targeted and then it will be first come, first serve.....they will figure out where to put them once they are on campus.....remember that Koufos is a very good ball handler and can play out on the wing, he is a dynamic player.

i havent seen any of these kids play. so it is entirely possible to line up koufos at the 3, pope at the 4 and lauderdale at the 5? obviously pope and lauderdale are interchangable with love etc...

I have a tough time seeing a 7+ footer line up at the 3...

He has the skills to play spot duty at the three and that is no joke....this kid has a TON of talent.....would Matta play him at the 3 all the time, most likely not, but he has the skills right now to play at that position if the need arises....

A 7-foot wing? Don't laugh.

"There were many times last season that my coach played me at the 3," Koufos said.

I know its hard to believe but this kid will most likely be a top ten if not top five player in the 2007 class when its all said and done.

Coach Matta …we reviewed tape about my position. Oden is a year older than me. He might go to the NBA or he might stay two years. It doesn't matter. He said he'll play me at the three or the four. Getting off screens, shooting the elbow jumper, driving the hoop, and passing it out. Dallas Lauderdale of Ohio will be the five man in that case. So we've got all of the Ohio people coming to Ohio State."

Matta thinks he can play the 3 or 4.

The one major weakness to his game at this point, is like with so many other kids his age, he needs to get stronger, once he gets stronger, the sky is the limit.

The only reason I asked is because over on the Diebler thread you mentioned that you thought if they had Lauderdale, Koufas, and Diebler, they would try and get a shooting guard for the 4th and final scholarship. Do we have more than 4, or do you see them taking Alibi if he commits even if we already have those other 3?

I'm not sure how I feel about it without knowing whether Cook stays for another year. If he goes, I might be inclined to go with another SG, but then it'll be too late. :(

My biggest concern though would be defensively. Can he move quickly enough to keep up with the athletic wing 3 men?

If he can, that would certainly be an awesome weapon to have. Especially if Oden decides to stick around for two...

I did say that , in the context of how many possible scholies they may use, according to my figures they will have more than four at this point in time.....

Realistically, Lauderdale will be a 5......Koufos will be a 4............and Diebler will be a 3.....

I don't think you would see Koufos play the three exclusively, but he could play in spot duty......

I still believe if they land these three players then its likely they would target a SG, such as......Dante Jackson....Durrell Summers......or a longshot like Eric Gordon....

Somewhat delayed revelation here: we're debating depth on the OSU basketball team. Depth 2 or 3 years down the road. Depth involving 4 and 5 star recruits. In the middle of football season.

Anyone doubt how much Matta's done for this program in just over a year's time?
