Sure, by his standards. The fact is that the Wolves' were losing consistently with Darko, but have been pretty competitive in the games he has been out thus far. Everyone is still waiting for Milicic to live up to expectations. I just don't think he's worth investing that much playing time, when a guy like Koufos has been (IMO) very productive with the minutes he's been given.

I want my Buckeyes to succeed in the pro's just like the next OSU fan, but the T'wolves problem isn't Darko specific. This team suffers from a complete lack of talent across the board. The ONLY player worth his position right now is Love. The rest of the starters would be back-ups on any above average team and the back-ups would be the last man on the bench of any above average team.

Koufos has his chance with Darko out to show that he is worth it. Let's hope he can show some skills. And I'll cut the rookie Johnson some slack b/c he's a rookie and learning.

Yah Darko is actually having a breakout season. Kosta's main 'competition' for minutes is backup rookie Nikola Pekovic from Montenegro. But Pekovic is not your average rookie, he's 25 & was the best center in Europe the last two years. They like his rebounding & physical game, but they also like Koufos as another talented young big as well (Rambis will use Pek as the 2nd center, but has not hesistated to use Koufos first at times too) From reading interviews, I get the feeling Koufos is very happy with this season because the last year in Utah was a step back or stagnant at best (because he barely played on that playoff team) Kosta has already totaled more minutues with Minnesota so far than all of last season (Seems like Rambis has a lot of confidence in him, but he currently just as experience in front of him).

One thing many have noticed about Love..rarely will he contest shots. When that shot is about to go up, he's not contesting, he's positioning himself for a rebound..Team USA got on to him about that last summer (that's 5 or 6 extra rebounds a game) As good as a rebounder he is, he is not a great defender..and teams will score on him. Minnesota needs an extra wing scorer or another veteran guard. They have competed in several games, but like the Cavs, they lack execution down the stretch. They are too young right now, and don't have much of a defensive presence (Love is apart of that)

rumor floating around is he could be part of the 3 team carmelo trade...he would be sent to denver

Kosta Koufos was traded to the Nuggets as an addendum to the Carmelo Anthony trade on Tuesday.

The Wolves didn't need the big man depth after picking up Anthony Randolph, and in the process shed his salary and get an unprotected second round pick from the Nuggets. On the other hand, the Nuggets are putting together some semblance of a frontcourt, as it remains to be seen if Nene will be traded.

Kosta Koufos celebrated his 22nd birthday Thursday in an unfamiliar city, on a new team and among teammates he doesn?t know.

Forty-eight hours earlier, Koufos had been traded for the second time in seven months.

Yes, the NBA can be a cold business.

Sitting in a mostly deserted locker room 90 minutes before the Nuggets? first game with him on the roster, Koufos smiled after spying a recognizable face.

?Hey, how you doing?? he asked, remembering me from his two seasons in Utah.

Unlike many of the other six new Nuggets acquired in the Carmelo Anthony trade, Koufos was not surrounded by reporters.

In fact, Denver coach George Karl and I might have been the only ones who talked to him all night.

Koufos is the stranger in town ? again.

For the timing being, he is alone in a fight to carve his niche in a sport that seems particularly heartless every year just before the trade deadline.

?I understand it?s a business ? this is not new to me,? Koufos said. ?That?s part of being in the NBA. ... This is my team now and I have to work hard to make the best of it.?

Konstantine Demetrios Koufos was born in Canton, Ohio, in 1989.

That?s about the time John Stockton and Karl Malone were leading the Jazz into a decade of NBA prominence.

One of three children in his family, Koufos was the only one who grew beyond point guard size.

A decorated star in high school, Koufos went to Ohio State, where he planned to major in business.

After only one year, however, the fame and fortune of professional basketball beckoned.

?I hope the Buckeyes win the national championship,? Koufos said. ?I?ll always support them. But it was time to move ahead.?

Kosta Koufos and Timofey Mozgov: These two didn?t play any meaningful minutes in the playoffs, but the Nuggets like them both and they could influence future decisions on other frontcourt players -- such as re-signing Martin and potentially trading Andersen.

Mozgov is more well-known because he demonstrated in New York that his size makes him a passable backup center, and he can still get better. But I?m also told that Koufos impressed on the practice floor when he came to Denver, and that the Nuggets would like to see more. He?s a soft player who needs to be paired with a tough guy, but his offensive skills could be a plus if used in the right situations.

The dark horse at center is Kosta Koufos. Most fans tend to overlook him and see him as little more than a bench player. However, he was the Nuggets biggest and youngest players and when he played last season he did well. He is very skilled for a 22-year-old and has a surprisingly good work ethic. He may not be as athletic as Mozgov, but he has very refined post skills. George Karl went as far as saying Koufos (who would have been a senior in college last season) would have been a lottery pick if he was in this draft. Take that for what it is. If he outworks Mozgov in training camp there is a chance he gets the starting nod.

Don?t forget that Koufos did close out the season with three straight games with double-digit points ? despite averaging only 21 minutes. It also including an 18 and 9 game against Golden State in 19 minutes. In those three games, he shot 64 percent.

Meet Kosta Koufos

He may be the largest and youngest (current) player on the Denver Nuggets, but Kosta Koufos is by far the most overlooked player on the team.

Most fans see Koufos as just a throw-in in the Carmelo Anthony trade and why shouldn?t they? Koufos came to Denver midway through his third season in the League and has played in only 123 games and has already been traded twice before his 21st birthday.

However, the Nuggets coaching staff have seen more than that in a little less then five months. Koufos has shown solid offensive game that could stretch out to the 3-point line and an impressive work ethic ? especially in the weight room. In fact according to some Denver media, Koufos has outworked prized big man Timofey Mozgov at practice.

Koufos didn?t get a chance until late in the season when the Nuggets decided to rest their starters for the playoffs and he made the most of his opportunity with three impressive games to end the season ? two of which came against his former teams.

Nuggets' Kosta Koufos On 'Hurt' By Johnny Cash And Nine Inch Nails

Kosta Koufos has been the forgotten player in the Carmelo Anthony trade, as he came to the Denver Nuggets by way of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He's even more forgotten now with the lockout in place. But never fear, we have a story about Koufos here.

Mark Titus, former Ohio State basketball player, has re-posted an essay supposedly written by Koufos, his teammate for one season. I say supposedly just to cover my bases, but I'll believe that Titus is posting a genuine piece of work Koufos produced for one of his classes.

The essay was a comparison of Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" to Nine Inch Nails. Here's a small sample of what Koufos wrote:

After Listening to the song Hurt from both artists Johnny Cash, and the group Nine Inch Nails, it caught my attention in an awkward way. Both songs had the same lyrics, but sung in a different type of tone.

Greece wins tournament in Germany

A clearly improved Greece won the tournament held in Bamberg, Germany scoring three wins in as many games over Turkey, Germany and Belgium, on August 19-21.

The players of coach Ilias Zouros showed a much more robust team with an ultra-tight defense and many ideas in attack that bodes well for the Eurobasket that starts on August 31 in Lithuania.

The most impressive showing was on Friday when Greece stifled the Turkish attack to win by 24 points, with a 62-38 score. Turkey was runner-up in the last World Championship, which it had hosted.

Greece conceded only two points in the last period and 13 in the whole of the second half, having Yiannis Bourousis as its top scorer with 17 points on the night.

Then on Saturday, the Greeks defeated host Germany 69-56 despite facing the team of NBA champion Dirk Nowitzki. Kosta Koufos, who going from strength to strength with Greece, played an impressive game that produced 17 points in 18 minutes.

NORTH CANTON ?

Basketball does not stop for Kosta Koufos, even though NBA players have been locked out for months.

The former GlenOak High School star and Denver Nuggets center shows up every morning at Walsh University to work out. The lockout has given Koufos time to enjoy the comforts of home, but October is when NBA players gear up for the grind of a long season.

?I definitely want to be in training camp,? Koufos says.

Whether he plays an NBA game this season or not remains uncertain.

Commissioner David Stern canceled the first two weeks of the regular season because a new collective bargaining agreement between the players and owners has not been reached. More cancellations appear likely. Stern feels there will be no basketball on Christmas if an agreement is not reached Tuesday when players and owners meet with a federal mediator.

Koufos tries to be optimistic.

?I understand that this is a business,? Koufos said. ?Whenever the lockout is lifted, my mindset is to be ready.?

The NBA season ? whenever it tips off ? will be Koufos? fourth. He spent the first two years in Utah before being traded to Minnesota in the summer of 2010. After playing 39 games with the Timberwolves, he was involved in the blockbuster three-team trade that saw Denver send Carmelo Anthony to New York.

Koufos made one start and averaged 4.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in 11 regular season games with the Nuggets.

?I played very well, and it was a blessing,? Koufos said. ?... I worked hard every day and feel like I can be very successful in this league.?
