Memphis has coveted Koufos for the last year-plus. Denver wanted to give JaVale McGee more minutes and dealt Koufos, the Nuggets' starting center last season, to the Grizzlies. Gasol has racked up major minutes the last two years, especially in the postseason (609 out of a possible 720 minutes last playoffs), and Koufos will be a solid backup. There may also be times when Memphis plays Gasol and Koufos together.

Q & A with Memphis Grizzlies Center Kosta Koufos
By Phillip Dean On November 4, 2013

I spent some time with Memphis Grizzlies center Kosta Koufos after practice as they prepare for the Boston Celtics tonight at FedEx Forum at 7 P.M.

Q: How do prepare for a team like Boston that is in rebuilding mode right now?
Koufos: We can’t take them lightly they have really good players, a good system going, and we want to win. Like I’ve said many times before we work hard and got a lot of things to work on but at the same time we get better and better every day.

Q: What are you learning from the transition from being a starter at Denver to coming off the bench for this team?
Koufos: Just an opportunity to play basketball with an elite level team I’m learning a lot from Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. Whenever my number is called I’m gonna go in and play hard and I’ve done that my whole career. That’s all I know to do.

Q: What have you been learning from Marc Gasol lately?
Koufos: Just the way to play the system. He plays in multiple speeds. He’s the reason why he’s one of the best centers in the NBA. He’s very smart and I watch him every day at practice and study his game and it’s only made me better.

Q: What is the team working on lowering the turnovers?
Koufos: Just learning the system a little bit more better. Playing within ourselves. Playing with more confidence and I think we are doing that every day. I feel very confident and will a successful season this year.

Q: How’s the team chemistry going so far?
Koufos: Everybody’s great. 1-13 everybody is doing their role and playing hard. Coaching staff has done a great job. It’s been fun but most importantly we are getting better as a team and we’re rolling.

Q: How are you enjoying Memphis right now and anything you like about the city so far?
Koufos: Y’all’s fan base is great. The grit and grind all that I love it I love the motto and hopefully coming off the bench I can bring whatever energy I can to the help to win games.

Kosta Koufos scored six points on 3-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds and no steals or blocks in 28 minutes on Friday, and he could be looking at serious minutes due to Marc Gasol's knee injury.
We'd like to see the Grizzlies issue a statement and see more reporting on Gasol's situation in general, and the most recent item we have is a tweet: "Rumors are swirling that (he) has a Grade 2 MCL tear and will be out 10 weeks" according to team blog 3 Shades of Blue. Along with Z-Bo telling Tim Duncan on the court that Gasol might've tore his MCL

Report: Kings, Kosta Koufos agree to 4-year, $33 million deal

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to a four-year, $33 million deal with free agent center Kosta Koufos, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Koufos will have a player option on the fourth year.

This is actually quite a sensible deal for Sacramento, which is a weird thing to type because of all that's happened lately. Koufos is one of the best backup centers in the NBA, a solid two-way big man who is capable of starting for stretches.
