PG Braxton Beverly (transfer to NC State, transfer to Eastern Kentucky)

by all means, call up your leader gene smith and chastise him for the "boneheaded timing" my man.
i'm certainly happy with the outcome, but i don't think the outcome justified the decision. fire matta in april? fine. fire matta after some prospective targets sign or re-up contracts? fire matta after a couple key recruiting months? i think we're very fortunate and a bit lucky that we got the coach we did. i don't think ho1tmann was quite the foregone conclusion that jeans wants us to believe.

You act like getting a free year of college classes is meaningless. I'm sure from an academic standpoint giving a player a year off of athletic competition is not a negative. If the NCAA values education, it really isn't a total loss.

The NCAA has their rules, the problem in most cases is they don't have enough proof to enforce them, or there is a factual dispute they can't resolve.

The NCAA’s response to UNC’s defense basically validated that.

I am not excusing the NCAA for doing nothing there, but this is an entirely separate case with different issues. In Beverly's case, what is the point of having rules if the NCAA is supposed to make decisions contrary to enforcing them? You can argue the NCAA should change their rules, but they haven't.

what i'd like to see keatts do is play beverly anyway. play him in game one. make a spectacle of the ncaa's absurdity.
i highly doubt this will happen primarily because a coach shouldn't jeopardize a player's season or exploit him as pure political capital, but i still would love to see this. the brazen disrespect of a coach, a player, and a program publicly thumbing its nose at the ncaa would be a major story, which is precisely what emmert & co. don't want to see happen.

You almost have to do this.

Absurd.
