PG Braxton Beverly (transfer to NC State, transfer to Eastern Kentucky)

ncsu just upset #2 arizona. beverly had 20 points on 5/7 shooting overall, 3/5 behind the arc, and 7/9 from the line. he was outstanding. after a slow start to the season, he looked unfazed against top competition. beverly looks like he has "it." very much that floor general composure; although, he also played a lot off the ball, which surprised me. if you want to know how much keatts trusts beverly already, then look up who shot the technical free throws at the end of the game.

it's too bad ho1tmann was unable to keep beverly committed. our point guard situation would look so much better. sure, he may turn around and look bad in the next games. that's possible. but based on how comfortable he looked tonight, my guess is beverly would have been our starter by january.

my issue with this situation and why i'm not "fuck 'em" is the timing. beverly announced his decommitment on 6/30. ayala was offered on 6/29. a couple days before that offer, there was an article noting that osu was in pursuit. i think once ho1tmann was hired, he looked at the roster, looked at what was coming in, and began looking for alternatives. i wouldn't fault ho1tmann for that at all, but i think braxton saw the writing on the wall and departed. remember, ho1tmann looked at braxton while ho1tmann was at butler. ho1tmann never offered, though. my guess is the decommitment was "mutual." ho1tmann probably wasn't keen on beverly being on scholarship for four years, and beverly had a comfortable landing spot. this is all circumstantial, but it makes sense.

also, i like gritty underdogs with good attitudes who overcome expectations.

kid has been looking like a shorter steve nash this year, really wish he would have stuck around, derek funderburke looks like a player as well, I think nc st. has another player on their roster who could have potentially been a buckeye as well... a guard from dayton I think.
