PG Mike Conley (1st Team All BIG, NBA All-Star, Oscar Winner, Minnesota Timberwolves)

FYI - Chris Paul is declaring for the draft. Now, how does this affect Mike's decision is what I ask? Does it make Wake more attractive, even though he will get there 2 years after Paul leaves? They could find another PG next year that could break out. I don't know for sure, but these doesn't exactly strengthen our chances with him IMO. I really hope I am wrong though.

you could look at it in the opposite way in that now another pg gets a chance to shine at wake before conley gets there, which may relegate him to the pine for a few years.

but i doubt it affects him at all

if he does not commit to Wake on his visit, I think we land him. Prosser better put on the full court press, because if Oden and Conley get back on that plane to Indiana without committing, that means Matta is going to have the last shot at landing the package deal.

wadc...I am almost certain Conley will not commit on his visit. The staff feels really, really good with our chances to land him and the distance factor is in our favor in this situation. I would be shocked if he does commit during his visit. Cook is doing a very good job on Conley. :wink2:

on bucknuts it says that it is likely that oden and conley will visit osu on the weekend of April 29th.

If this visit actually happens, then we can have some optimism.

i appreciate your confidence, but the kid consistently utters that wake is his leader. i just hope that he doesnt jump the gun and commit on his official there.

that's the first step, after that, just get him on campus (i'm sure cook will manage to take an unofficial that weekend), and hope that it gets done.

tsteele316....I do have confidence in regards to Conley and Oden making the visit in the next month. I have confidence that our chances with Conley are 55% or better at this point. The distance factor is playing a huge role for Conley right now. I believe if he does not verbal on his trip to Wake (which I highly doubt) we are the team to beat for his services. The inside scoop is that is parents want him to play close to home and that might be the key to this saga.

I feel good about our chances, this one will play out in the next few weeks.

Any chance Daequan could join them on their visit?

Apparently the plan is to have Cook down for a unofficial visit during Conley and Oden's visit......smart move on Matta's part. Do not underestimate Cook and Conley's friendship factor. :wink2:

years of OB recruiting has made me a skeptic as well, but I am starting to change my views. we have been on the wrong end of this recruiting stick many times...we think we have a kid all but committed and then things just keep dragging out and dragging out until it seems that no to updates sound the same. we read one update from an OSU guru that makes us feel kinda positive, then we read another update from a school competing for his services and that positive feeling is immediately wiped away. we keep holding on to bits and pieces of information and random quotes that mention us, but we can just feel it deep down that the kid is not headed our way. he doesn't have to come out and say it, but we can all just sense it. it makes your stomach turn. and then comes the dagger. the day the kid commits elsewhere. we all head to the message boards to cope with our frustration...and that frustration is only compounded by the fact that a few months ago we though we had him locked up.

this is how wake fans feel right about now...:wink2:

The above passage was taken from the chronicles of Fred Davis.

but back on point, i will be uneasy until conley actually shows up in columbus for his official. the fact that wake has started targeting a larger number of pg's as of late may indicate that they are leery of the situation as well.

that is exactly who I had in mind...the only difference being the Conley isn't from North Carolina and we aren't USC...

I think the offers to Augstin and the like are a huge indication of how Prosser and his staff feel about their chance with Conley. Conversely, Matta and his staff seem to be extemely happy with how things are progessing with Conley.

44820 thanks for the great info. Have you heard how Paul declaring affects Wakes plans? Are there any points out their left that Wake might pursue for next year? Agree that the longer Conley waits the better, as Wake is in on multiple point guards, although if he decides earlier I don't necessarily think it hurts tOSU chances. I have heard that Conley & Oden are visiting tOSU the April 22 or 23. Have you heard the same and isn't this when they were supposed to visit Wake? If this is indeed accurate this is Big IMHO. Thanks for the info 44820, keep up the GREAT work! I'm starting to believe we have a very good chance of landing the tOSU starting five:biggrin: ! We just need a little love from Stern & the players union as I still don't know how a kid turns down being the #1 pick, although Linehart did.
Chris Paul's decision to go to the NBA will not have a great effect on Conley in my opinion, it would be another year before he got there and there are quality players on the Wake roster right now.

<O:p</O:p

At this moment, Wake is recruiting some of the top point guards in the country for the 2006 class that includes.....

<O:p</O:p
D.J. Augustin...considered the #1 point guard, Wake has offered.
Tyson Lawson...considered the #2 point guard, Wake has offered.
Jawan Carter....considered the #12 point guard
<O:pJavaris Crittenton....considered the #8 point guard, may be a SG though.
<O:pLuis Guzman...considered the #17 point guard
<O:pTrevon Hughes..considered the #11 point guard, Wake has offered.
<O:pJeremiah Rivers..considered the #5 point guard, Wake has offered.
<O:pJerry Smith...considered the #4 point guard
<O:pWill Walker...considered the #20 point guard
<O:pJosue Soto..considered the #25 point guard

Now, on the other hand OSU is recruiting the following point guards for the 2006 class....
<O:p</O:p
<O:pMike Conley...considered the #6 point guard, OSU has offered.

Now Will Walker...considered the #20 point guard, which OSU has reportedly offered has not shown quite the same interest in OSU and he is a longshot to verbal.

So, as anyone can see, Wake has a lot of quality players in their sites, this may play a role for Conley, the longer he waits to make a decision, one of the above named prospects may commit.
<O:p</O:p
<O:pReportedly, Oden and Conley will be visiting OSU around May 5-6.

Conley will be playing in the Real Deal on the Hill in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend along with many of the top players in the country. After that Conley and Oden will visit Wake on 22 April. He has had schools visit recently during the in-school visits. Wake, Ohio State and Indiana visited. North Carolina and Illinois will be visiting next week.
