MIKE CONLEY, UTAH JAZZ
Probably the most well-known Buckeye playing in a professional sport right now – given that NFL season hasn’t started yet and that D’Angelo Russell, Evan Turner and the Minnesota Timberwolves were too far down in the standings to qualify for the NBA’s return to play – Conley is the starting point guard for the Jazz, who will be playing into at least late August as they’ve already clinched a berth in the playoffs.

Conley, who scored 20 points to help lead the Jazz to a 106-104 win in their first game in the bubble on Thursday, has averaged 14 points and 4.3 assists in 42 games this season.

Mike Conley leaves Orlando Bubble for the birth of his son

Conley will certainly be missed on the basketball court. The veteran guard had averaged 18 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds in six appearances since the restart.

Ingles expects to pick up some extra playmaking responsibilities in Conley’s absence.

“We’ve always been lucky with this team to have multiple ball-handlers, guys who can create, guys who can play pick-and-roll,” Ingles said. “I’m comfortable doing that. I’ve done it before. When Mike was out earlier this year, me and Donovan (Mitchell) played more of that role at the point. We’ll figure out the best way to attack until Mike gets back.”

Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson also figures to pick up some of the offensive workload with Conley out.

“Really it’s a mindset that we have to have the next man up,” Clarkson said. “Mike is definitely a loss for us whatever time he’s gone. But everybody just has to have that next man up mentality. You can’t think about anything else. Come in here and put the effort out and we’re going to get a good result.”

Clarkson also congratulated Conley on the birth of his son.

“Being a father is more important than all of this,” Clarkson said. “I’m happy he can experience this. It’s a blessing.”

Sources: Mike Conley to clear quarantine, start Game 3 for Jazz

After returning to campus after the birth of his son, Utah Jazz point guard Mike Conley Jr. is clearing quarantine Friday morning and will be in the lineup for Game 3 of the Western Conference first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, sources told ESPN.

Conley is expected to return as a starter with the series tied 1-1.

He missed Games 1 and 2 after being away for the birth of his son, Elijah Michael, in Ohio on Monday. He returned to the Walt Disney World Resort late Monday night and was cleared for a release on late Friday morning after meeting the league's testing protocols for the coronavirus, sources said.

Conley balled out last night.

Back from quarantine, Conley leads Jazz over Nuggets 124-87
"I've said it before and I'll say it again: He's a terrific player," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "I know how glad our guys were to see him back."

Conley left the NBA bubble for the birth of his son and returned Monday night. He went through a four-day separation that ended Friday.

While in isolation, Conley said he got about 30 minutes of outside activity a day to work on his game.

There wasn't a hint of rust as he made his series debut. He was 7 of 8 from 3-point range and had four assists.

"Being on that court was all I was thinking about other than my family," Conley said. "Thankful to be back and looking forward to the rest of the series."

The 37-point loss tied the third-worst in Denver's playoff history.

8. Mike Conley Jr.: Utah Jazz (ETO)

Conley has an early termination option in his deal that he seems highly unlikely to exercise, given it’s worth more than $34 million and he’s 33 years old, coming off a disappointing first season in Utah. He won’t get that type of base salary ever again, and unless the Jazz would want to renegotiate a friendly longer-term deal that pays him more money but spread out over additional years, it’s hard to think of a scenario where Conley would even consider becoming a free agent this year. Utah will hope last season was more of a blip than the start of his decline.

The Memphis Grizzlies signed Conley to a five-year, $153 million deal which was, at the time, the richest contract in NBA history, according to ESPN.

Kevin Durant, Mike Conley's 'Two Distant Strangers' Short Film Wins Oscar

Kevin Durant and Mike Conley are more than just NBA All-Stars.

They are also Oscar winners.



Durant and Conley won Oscars on Sunday night for their work on the film Two Distant Strangers. Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported the Brooklyn Nets forward and Utah Jazz guard were executive producers on the project, as was Durant's business partner Rich Kleiman.
