PGA Tour (Official Thread)

Joe Buck has no business doing Golf commentary.
neither does Jim Nance but that is beside the point

Just saw an article where they have a shot clock on the European tour. Not sure if it is for all events but I think that it is time for the PGA to take a good hard look at it. I mean these guys are pros and should not need 10 minutes to study 1 shot. It is sort of like watching baseball. Game is really moving too slow.

Very true Nantz is as much an ass as Buck on Golf telecasts, but at least Nantz has some cred having done it for some time now.

The shot clock concept is an intriguing one. I think a big part of the problem for pace of play yesterday was the course setup. Sometimes the USGA gets a bit full of themselves when setting up the U.S. Open course. I didn’t think 4 and half was bad yesterday.

That said, I will say the pace of play for most amateurs at the local courses is of bigger concern to me then people pulling a Phil/Daly move after yesterday.

Nantz kisses more ass, anyone's ass, then any commentator I have ever heard

These guys are professionals and it should not take them 5-10 minutes to figure out how long to hit a golf ball. I know the game is somewhat difficult but these guys are professionals and have been doing it all of their lives. It does not do much for television coverage when you have to watch, if you want to, live coverage for 4.5 hours.
Oh, I think European courses are set up much harder than courses in the United States. American golfers whine when they shoot high scores because the course is set up for professional golfers.
Please note the word professional.

It was mostly the greens and pin placements that caused the pace of play issues yesterday. Some of them were just silly stupid. The amount of 3 putts yesterday was unreal. A high percentage of the players were over par.

I don’t believe the Euro tour courses they play on a weekly basis are any more difficult than the PGA tour. They seem pretty similar when I watch. I really don’t see the Euros are having any more success than the U.S. players this week.

Edit: I didn’t listen to player interviews yesterday but I think more of the hoopla about the course is being driven by Fox:argh:

I’d be fine with replacing Buck with Holly8D

is almost like that every week---how many times do they have to consult their yardage book and book with the greens contours--every week is way too slow for professionals

Most weeks these guys are playing rounds in 4 hours. The majors typically seem to take a bit longer per round. But, hell most amateurs can’t play rounds in 5 hours using carts.

If I had the kind of money, exemptions, endorsements, etc. that comes with winning a tournament, especially a major, damn straight I would be checking those things.

At least with Golf they can move from player to player and keep the coverage moving if they choose to. Key there is choose to as opposed to following 2-3 groups or Tiger or showing the leaders on the practice tee....

Wow, Tiger just avoided disaster off the tee by about 2 inches. Need a few breaks to win this thing and he got one there.
