Philadelphia Flyers (Official Thread)

Why is it so difficult for the Flyers to find a FA or home grow a goalie? They do a solid job of developing talent and bringing in talent at other positions. Its been 30 years, you'd think they'd find a suitable replacement for Pelle Lindbergh by now.

Seriously, its like cheering for the Buffalo Bills or us during the Cooper years. Always almost, but never quite close enough. The 80's, 90's and this year are killing me.

And that Zherdev move. Could anyone be a poorer fit for this organization than him. All talent and not enough heart. I think they feel Pronger and Richards are going to make him tow the line.

I don't know how this year could have killed you. Hell they barely made the playoffs, so getting to the SCF was playing with the house money so to speak....

Being a goalie in Philly is kinda like being a QB in Miami or the starting shortstop for the NYY.....only certain guys can live up to it and in most cases, no one really will....

It's akin to the 98 Michigan State game. Getting that close and not closing is sometimes more painful than not being there. Playoff wise the Flyers played their hearts out this year and maybe were one solid goaltender and one defense man short.

That still doesn't make sense.

The 1998 Buckeyes were LOADED and throughout that year had dominated.

The Flyers team this past year weren't and never played like it UNTIL the playoffs.

Pre-season the Flyers were being called by some, favorites to get to the finals. They were stacked on offense, decent on defense (just picked up Pronger) and made an unconventional move by getting Emery (very talented-emotionally disturbed hype). A coaching change mid-season and two injured goaltenders later they limped into the playoffs. They did implode with 15 games to go. You can question the way they made it to the post season but before the puck dropped they had a better than even chance of beating most teams in the league.

I had faith they would do well after the first series.
