Phoenix Suns (Official Thread)

HOLY SHIT! NASH JUST NAILED A BOMB TO PUT IT IN OT

i was in the process of writing what a disapointing loss this was and how bad the suns played down the stretch. i had to erase my sentence when nash made that 3.

161-157 in double OT. Suns just ran the Nets into the ground. The Nets had nothing left by the end of the game. You could tell they aren't used to playing at that pace. They set their season scoring record with 6 minutes left in the 4th qtr. Suns were very lucky to win this one. 8 in a row now.

Amazingly as usual 6 players with the majority of minutes... In all honesty and not being a homer... this team has a chance to be a championship squad. They're nasty across the board. Amare the Manchild makes thing look so smooth, finally getting back in playing condition.... part of the future of the NBA. Diaw, the former PG and C... can you say diverse? Shawn Marion... dream teamer, perenial all-star... and consistently a top 3 fantasty statiscal player. Raja Bell, What up Kobe?... the glue of the team in last years playoffs. The man responsible for guarding the best... also one of the top 3 point shooters in the league. Lenardo Barbosa... has burst out as much as anyone else in the past 3 months of basketball. The Brazil starter is a clutch shooter and the eventual replacement of Nash. And finally Mr. MVP Steve Nash. Nuff said.

Barbosa's my boy. My dad (who still lives in PHX) calls him Teddy Ginn with a basketball. I guess they've started calling him flash in Phoenix. He also shoots the three so well.

only .5 GB of the Lakers now

Wow, Nash and Kidd both got off tonight. I don't know if that's more a product of both players offensive prowess or their defensive deficiencies. Great game with great players stepping up when it really matters.

Nash scores 42 to outshine Kidd

Nash scores 42 to outshine Kidd's triple-double in Suns win

Paul Coro
The Arizona Republic
Dec. 8, 2006 12:00 AM EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - As the Nets home crowd was informed that Jason Kidd had just tied Wilt Chamberlain for the third most triple-doubles in NBA history, only Steve Nash could get Kidd to do something he rarely does on the court - smile.

Nash patted the back of fellow point guard and his former teammate/mentor's head and said, "You've only got 75 more than me."

De-icing Kidd's game face is not the only thing Nash can do. Only Nash could steal his thunder - and a Suns win, their league-best eighth in a row - as he did here in Thursday's dramatic 161-157 Phoenix victory in double overtime over New Jersey.

Kidd was unbelievable. Nash was unbeatable. Kidd had 38 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists to lead the Nets to a franchise scoring record but dribbled off his foot on a potential game-tying possession at the end of the second overtime and missed a game-winner at the close of the first overtime.

Nash posted a regular-season career high of 42 points, added 13 assists, hit a three-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation and had nine of his points and three of his assists in the decisive sixth period.

A game after dishing 20 assists, Nash used the flick of his wrist and the smooth, outstretched scoop of his hands to hit 16 of 25 shots in Phoenix's second highest-scoring game ever (173 vs. Denver in 1990 is the record). New Jersey, fueled by a scolding from team President Rod Thorn, ran its hearts out against Phoenix but stayed in step to make the Suns a tired team rolling into Boston for tonight's game.

"I would've been sick if we would've lost," Nash said. "That's what it comes down to is just not wanting to lose. I don't care how many points or what happens in the storyline. Win or lose, that's all I was thinking about.

"We had won or lost a number of times. It's mentally a great challenge to stay focused and on top."

Even topping last year's Suns-Knicks triple-overtime thriller in New York, the teams combined for a tie for the fourth most points ever scored in a NBA game. The only scar left on the game was Nets coach Lawrence Frank's decision to leave in Vince Carter when he told his team to take a foul at the end of the fourth quarter. Carter, who was 13 of 17 from the field for 31 points, fouled out with 4.8 seconds to go.

With 4.4 seconds to go in regulation and the Suns in a 133-130 hole, Nash used the best screener in the business, Kurt Thomas, to shake loose and dropped the tying shot off of one of 14 Boris Diaw assists. Nash was 6 of 7 from three-point range, as was Raja Bell before he fouled out in the first overtime.

It was the league's highest scoring game in 16 years.

"I just told our guys I think we can go home tonight and turn on classic NBA and it will be on already because that was the best game I have ever seen," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. " . . . Those two points guards have the will. They wouldn't let their teams lose."

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Amar? Stoudemire had 22 points and 12 rebounds to help the Phoenix Suns win their 10th consecutive game, 114-84 over the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday.

Stoudemire had his seventh double-double in eight games, Boris Diaw added 17 points, Leandro Barbosa had 15, and Shawn Marion and Raja Bell had 14 each. Steve Nash had 11 points and 10 assists.

Sean May scored a career-high 26 points for the Bobcats, who suffered their third straight loss, all by 20 or more points. Raymond Felton added 14 points, and Emeka Okafor and Matt Carroll had 12 each. advertisement

The Bobcats hit their first three shots and 9-of-13 in the opening eight minutes, and took a 20-13 lead on Carroll's 22-footer at the 4:07 mark. Charlotte led 30-27 after the first quarter.

But Phoenix opened the second quarter with a 13-8 run ? capped by a Diaw layup with 7:58 left ? to take the lead, and were ahead 57-54 at halftime.

The Bobcats tied the score at 57 on Felton's 3-pointer to open the third quarter, but Nash scored seven points during a 15-0 run that put the Suns ahead 72-57.

Charlotte struggled to find its range in the second half, shooting just 10-of-36 from the field and equaling its season low with 13 fourth-quarter points.

Phoenix continued to stretch its lead, going up 90-71 at the end of the third quarter and leading by as many as 36 points late in the fourth quarter.

Notes: Charlotte point guard Brevin Knight, the team's assist leader and fourth-leading scorer, missed his second straight game after straining his left calf in the Bobcats' loss to San Antonio on Dec. 6. ... Bobcats rookie Adam Morrison's shooting woes continued Sunday. He scored three points on 1-of-8 shooting, and has gone 4-of-34 in his last four games.
