Pittsburgh Penguins (Official Thread)

Just saw a stat that SJ hasn't led in regulation the entire series. Four games. WOW.

Well the Igloo was shaking but so were the Pens, at least in the early moments. SJ had their first lead of the series barely a minute in, and by the time the Pens got going Jones was standing on his head (saving 46 of 48 shots). So one opportunity is lost, and game six is tonight back in California. Really don't want to see this come down to a seventh game.

Back in the playoffs, but not optimistic about a repeat. A lot went right last year, starting with Letang actually being healthy for the playoffs. He's out this year.

I think it's about match ups. Columbus has been a difficult one for the Pens at times, more so than the President's Cup winning Caps (who the Pens have owned in the post season for years). I won't be surprised if the Jackets pull off the mild upset, opening the door to the Capitals finally making a run in the playoffs with Ovechkin.

Pens take out the CBJs in five games. That was a pleasant surprise, especially after Fleury was called into duty just before game one. :gagnam:

Time to rest up, hopefully get Hagelin and Murray back, and see if the Caps and Leafs can beat the hell out of each other for 3 more games.

Game 2 of the WSH series feels a lot like a couple of the CBJ games. The Caps owned the first period but just couldn't beat Fleury and then the Pens have absolutely owned the 2nd period.

Unfortunately the NHL's stupid playoff format has the top two teams in the regular season facing off in the second round.

Fortunately the Pens took the first two games in Washington to gain early control of the series.

Imagine the Patriots first drive of a playoff game, two defenders decide to dive helmet first into Brady's knee while the other gives him a forearm shiver to the head, knocking him out of action. How do you think the NFL would respond?

In the NHL, they give the guy a few minutes in the penalty box and call it a day. I'm reminded of 1992 and Adam Graves' tomahawk chop on Mario Lemieux. He didn't mean it (of course) but it broke Lemieux's hand. The Pens won the Cup anyway, but that didn't make it okay. But in a sport where they make guys where helmets but still encourage fist fights, progress doesn't come quickly. The knuckle-dragging dinosaurs are still in charge of the game, and it shows.
