Pittsburgh Penguins (Official Thread)

Gretzky won his last cup at 26. Crosby and Malkin have won two beyond that age but a third is looking less and less likely.

On the verge of going down 0-3 and probably headed for a sweep by the Islanders and Trotz. :ohbrother:

Boys have some things they have to shake up...

Letang, Maata, and Johnson are terrible for Pittsburgh. Not to mention they over paid for Shutlz too.

Just way too many puck movers and not enough grit.

They need to shake it up a bit I think but its hard to be mad when you've won back to back cups in the past 4 seasons.

After surviving the Pirates for another season there's nowhere to go but up with the Penguins. :ohbrother:

In: Alex Galchenyuk, Brandon Tanev, and Dominik Kahun.
Out: Phil Kessel (traded for Galchenyuk), Olli Maata (traded for Kahun), Matt Cullen (retired).

Last year's team was soft as hell and weak defensively, both of which were exploited by the Islanders in the first round. Shit had to change, I'm just not sure how much it will with these moves. The farm system is somewhat depleted after trying to chase another Cup with Crosby and Malkin, both of whom are bound to slip. Looking at last year, Malkin's decline has already begun.

Maybe I'm just pessimistic but anything beyond just making the playoffs this season would surprise me. I won't be shocked if the miss they cut.

It was a nice run but the Pens stars have reached the over-the-hill stage. The talent around them isn't good enough and the result is another nothing playoff performance.

This was just the play-in stage against a shitty Canadiens team. Acquire some real young talent or start rebuilding but the days of Crosby/Malkin carrying the team are gone.

Personally I think this...

1. Keep Crosby he's still really really good.
2. Get rid of Malkin
3. Get rid of Letang
4. Get rid of Murray
5. Get rid of Hornqvist

I think Malkin is on the down hill now and I think Letang has been on the downhill for 3 years now.

Murray hasn't been the same since his dad died unfortunately and Hornqvist is beat up.

These moves alone would clear like 25m in cap space. I hate to say it but Crosby trains well enough to retain but I question Malkin especially.

Watch: Penguins Equipment Manager Gets Assist on Crosby Goal

The Pittsburgh Penguins didn’t have enough to beat the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night at PPG Paints Arena. Philadelphia won in a shootout, 2-1. The Penguins weren’t without chances though Sidney Crosby scored a goal that will make a few highlight reels.

That Penguins goal brought smiles and some laughter on the bench and more chuckles following the game. The goal was set up by a superior individual effort by Penguins defenseman Kris Letang.

Letang stole the puck in the defensive zone and rushed 200 feet to the Philadelphia goal. Sidney Crosby trailed the one-on-one rush but was without a stick.

Until assistant Penguins equipment manager Jon Taglianetti held out a new blade for Crosby as he raced past the bench at full speed.

Crosby snared the new stick and raced to the net. Perhaps his longer route obscured him from the Flyers defenders in the zone and Crosby was the first to the rebound.

It also didn’t hurt that Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart whiffed on an attempted poke of the loose puck. Perhaps that added to the grins on the Pittsburgh Penguins bench.

Crosby slipped past the Flyers defenders and poked the loose puck past Hart for his 17th goal of the season. It was the Penguins only goal of the game, but it brought a good chuckle in the postgame.

Man named Happy throws bobcat after it attacks wife in wild video

This suburban neighborhood had a wild morning.

A harrowing 46-second home security video of a bobcat attacking a man’s wife has gone viral, documenting a scary turn of events that started with the surprise ambush — and ended with the man throwing the animal onto his front lawn.

The video starts with a calm scene — the man greeting a neighbor and commenting on his need for a car wash. Suddenly his wife starts screaming, and the blurry footage shows her cowering between cars as the animal attacks her.

“Oh my God! Run, Happy, run!” she screams — leading many online to believe the man’s nickname is Happy.

Instead of running, her husband snatches the cat off his wife and throws it onto his lawn.

“It’s a bobcat!” he screams, telling neighbors that the “f—er” was attacking his wife. After recovering, the cat makes a beeline for the family again, just before the video cuts out and the man vows to shoot the animal, which many viewers agreed appeared rabid.

Sources: Penguins in ‘advanced talks’ to sell team to Fenway Sports Group

The Penguins ownership group is engaged in “advanced talks” to sell the team to Fenway Sports Group, multiple sources told the Post-Gazette on Tuesday.

Ron Burkle, who teamed with franchise icon Mario Lemieux to purchase the team out of bankruptcy in 1999, intends to sell his controlling stake in the franchise to FSG, according to sources.
.
.
.
Fenway Sports Group, backed by billionaire John Henry, has built a sports-centric portfolio that includes the Boston Red Sox of MLB, Liverpool of the English Premier League and Roush Fenway Racing of NASCAR. NBA star LeBron James also has a stake in the company. Before purchasing the Red Sox, Henry was chairman and sole owner of the Florida Marlins. He also was a limited partner with the New York Yankees and chairman and majority owner of the Class AAA Tucson (Ariz.).

FSG, which also owns real estate like Fenway Park, has recently expressed an interest in expanding further.

Pens are the second hottest team in the league behind Colorado. Hopefully they stay healthy the rest of the way and bring another one home.

Curious if they make any moves at the deadline. They don't have much left to trade at this point.

I'd LOVE for them to get JT Miller from Vancouver, who is available. And Rutherford (ex Pens GM) is the GM there. But I don't think the Pens have the pieces.

Last week on 97.1, Jody Shelley floated the idea of the Pens trading Letang and Malkin at the trade deadline. lolololol I'll be the president before they do that.

Sid doing special things tonight. Netted 499 and has made some sick bank passes to get other guys a look.

Jarry is freaking good too just in case nobody was paying attention. Bruins have been applying crazy pressure but Jarry has been tough except for 2 shots.
