Pittsburgh Pirates (5x WS Champions) Ain't Nutting happenin'

Maury Brown released the MLB TV ratings for the 2020 regular season over at Forbes, showing a league-wide viewership increase of 4.2%.

The Pirates were not one of the teams contributing to that increase. They were the fourth lowest in the league, seeing a decrease in viewership of 34% from 2019.

There's a big fucking surprise. Most of the fans still hanging around are us old farts who remember when the team was competitive and pay attention out of habit. Toss in some kids too young to know better being brainwashed by their parents (shame on them) and this is what you get.

So how did Nutting respond to this news? He gutted what was left of the ML roster. 100 losses, here we come! :pirate:

The Keystone Kops are back, trailing the Reds by a touchdown. Only 6 more months to go! :pirate:

I don't know WTF is going on but the Bucs are 10-5 since a disastrous 1-6 start and back to .500 at 11-11.

They've won 4 of their last 5 series (all 2-1) and the 5th was a 2-2 split with the Padres. Go figure. :pirate:

Don't worry...they will meet all our expectations in the end. There are some really humorous computer ranking commentaries out there. They are the poster children for the word, "defunded".

According to this site that indicates funding (i.e. total payroll) the Pirates are just ahead of the Indians: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/

The disparity between the Dodgers (#1 team at $248M) and the Indians (#30 team at $49M) is ridiculous. The pirates are at #29 with $55M.

Just sayin': To level the playing field MLB should...

1. Lower the amount that triggers a luxury tax from the current $210M.

2. Institute a minimum total amount to be spent on salaries like the NFL does. If a MLB franchise does not generate enough money in a specific city to cover the minimum salary costs, i.e. the fans/businesses do not support the team; the owner can cover the difference, sell the team, or move the franchise to another city, etc.

You're looking at total payroll, which includes guys who aren't even on the roster anymore. The five lowest 26-man roster payrolls:

Orioles - $22M
Marlins - $38M
Pirates - $39M
Indians - $46M
Brewers - $47M
