Pittsburgh Pirates (5x WS Champions) Ain't Nutting happenin'

It took 3 tries but the first win of the season is in the books...barely.

Bucs 5
ATL 4

Rivero with a hold, Watson the save, but LeBlanc and Hudson were shaky in between. Still, a win is a win. :pirate:

The Bucs won 98 games two years ago and lost the division by 2 games. They went 5-13 against a bad Reds team, so why the hell would I expect anything different now? :ohbrother:

At least they won't start losing games to the Brewers until next month.

Stink up the joint at home against the Reds, give away a make-up game in the 8th at Boston, then go to Wrigley Field and double last season's win total there in 2 days.

This fucking team.

I'm not sure Meadows gets the call here. He's still not tearing it up in AAA, and bringing him up before the "super two" deadline in June isn't the Pirates way. I wouldn't be surprised if Osuna gets first crack at it. He had a good Spring, is an alternative RF/1B option to lefties like Bell and Jaso, and Meadows keeps grooming for the inevitable Cutch trade. Frazier probably benefits most in the short run.

Oh, and Marte is a knucklehead. Must have been trying to break double digits in homers this season. :bonk:

Gerrit Cole pitches 7 innings of two-hit ball and the Bucs lose 1-0 thanks to another unearned run - adding to their MLB lead in errors.

8-12. Only 142 more to go. :ohbrother:

On one hand this stuff is cool but on the other it speaks to the Pirates depth issues and eagerness to search for inexpensive options.

P Dovydas Neverauskus made his debut last night. He's the first Lithuanian-born player in MLB history.

INF Gift Ngoepe made his tonight. He's the first African-born player in MLB history.

Phil Coyne has been an usher at Pirates games since 1936. He'll turn 99 Friday and will have the night off since the Bucs will be in Florida, but he's working tonight.

He's seen Hall of Famers, champions, and a pretty fair amount of bad baseball, but there are worse gigs.

After throwing batting practice in the first inning (again), giving up 3 runs before getting the first out, Tyler Glasnow fired five shutout innings for his first quality start. He left with a 7-3 lead, so hopefully he gets that elusive first win.

I was ready to send him down a couple hours ago.

he also had a 2 run single that started the offensive outburst

Kang DUI'd himself out of MLB, Marte PED'd himself out of MLB, Polanco has as many HRs as I do, and now Jameson Taillon's "groin discomfort" turns out to be testicular cancer. Man, this season went to shit in a hurry. :pirate:
