Pittsburgh Pirates (5x WS Champions) Ain't Nutting happenin'

Trade deadline passes with a couple of nothing deals as the only real suspense left appears to be whether or not the Bucs can manage their 4th non-losing season since 1992. :pirate:

It's going to be a damn shame when they've completely wasted the career of Andrew McCutchen by making little effort to put a really good team around him. Had they not caught lightning in a bottle with Liriano (temporarily) reinventing himself and Burnett rejuvenated late in his career after escaping the Bronx, he'd likely have never seen the post season at all. Otherwise it's been draft flops and cheap pick ups filling out the roster, absent any sort of bold moves, despite being profitable each season in recent years. But hey, don't forget to come out for your t-shirt and bobble head doll this weekend. :ohbrother:

It's business as usual for the Buccos, spending the lowest percentage of income on payroll in MLB - but look at that beautiful ball park! (That you paid for even after voting against it)

Trade-deadline acquisition Ivan Nova signed a three year deal for a whopping (by Pirates standards) $26 million. He pitched very well in PNC and will hopefully provide some stability in the rotation in the pursuit of 82 wins, maybe 3rd place, and probably nothing else. Despite a few nice runs in recent years, the song remains the same - fun on a budget, if we're lucky. :ohbrother:

75 wins, 87 losses, 4th place. Gee, didn't see that coming. :roll1:

No point in even creating a new thread for 2018. Nobody fucking cares, hell I barely care anymore. :ohbrother:

Winter meetings ended with the Bucs biggest decision being the selection of the kosher meal option at dinner. Free agents? Get the fuck outta here. It's about the farm system. Then when they get too expensive, trade them for more prospects. Wash, rinse repeat. With any luck, you might catch lightning in a bottle for 3 years every quarter century. It probably won't ever be enough to win another title but it'll give the fans just enough hope to keep showing up for t-shirts, bobbleheads, and fireworks shows.

Can't wait for Spring training!

Pirates doing what the Pirates do, but I can't complain a lot about this one. Cole has been a disappointment since 2015 and has made it clear he has no intention of staying in Pittsburgh when he's a free agent in 2019.

Pirates RHP Gerrit Cole traded to Astros in 5-player deal

The World Series champion Houston Astros have acquired right-hander Gerrit Cole in a five-player deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In exchange, the Pirates receive right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove, third baseman Colin Moran, right-handed reliever Michael Feliz and outfielder Jason Martin.

Third base is a need, Musgrove is a promising young arm with big league experience, and there are other guys.
