POKER - Texas hold 'em style online ?

this is exactly what you are looking for.........i'm not positive how often this is updated, but it's all there, everything you want to know, including screen shots of the graphics

http://www.pokerlistings.com/poker-room-reviews

everyone has their personal preferences of course........i play on one of the smaller lower ranked sites called Absolute Poker after trying 7 or 8 of the top sites........i just like the feel, the graphics, and it's small enough that i can keep notes on people and see a lot of the same people and continually take advantage of them.........i don't like the feel of party poker but from what i hear about the profitability sounds like i should make the jump

the stuff about getting ripped off is just stupid.......for those that are against it there are 2 major reasons i would suggest it........A.) the average hand per hour online is from 60-120+ hands per hour, and 35 at a casino.......this means more profit in a shorter period of time, and more opportunity to hone your skills.......B.) you have to be much more technically sound, as mentioned before not being able to rely on body language, personally i think body language is overrated (seriously how often do you see these pros on TV truely not even look at the other guy, or gal, and go off of instinct based on pot odds and the other guys patterns, and times where they stare them up and down for a minute only to make the wrong call)........you do have to rely much more on betting patterns, and it's a way to hone in on this aspect...............i used to get killed at the casino until i sharpened up online, now it's a cakewalk unless i'm running bad of course..........why do you think you see so many "online guys" at final tables on TV? who won the last 2 WSOP? guys from poker stars

i play online a BARE MINIMUM of 15-20 hours a week, and make a nice enough supplemental income that i may be seriously considering doing it full time in the not too distant future, and i live in Southern Cal with a family to support............i have some theories and tips if you would care to hear them about online play..........also there is a book written by a guy who made a living playing almost exclusively online for a few years, and he made over $100K his first full year, although the book is more abou thold em itself

Anyone have any good suggestions on poker books to read?
the Sklansky books are highly recommended, other popular authors are Ciaffone and Ken Warren..........i would recommend going to Amazon and looking up most popular, and reading reviews to see what fits you best.........there are recommended lists as well that you can find

thump i'm not 100% certain but when you go to partypoker.net it says "largest online poker school", so maybe that software is meant just to play for free.....it's the same software though, and same company, but i don't know, to be safe do the partypoker.com download and see if it's different........basically once you're in find the cashier button and you're good to go

I use partypoker.com, but only because my buddies do (peer pressure), meaning I am not sure if it is actually one of the better sites.

(mods, delete or collapse my other, redundant thread - actually just delete it :) not much there. . .)

Thanks Mistri.

Probably not going to play for money, just want to see what it's like.

After doing a ton of research and reading... I decided to play on PokerChamps.com

It's Gus Hansen's site. Relatively new. They offered a seat at the L.A. Poker Classic and now that that is done... they are offering a seat at the EPT Monte Carlo. They pay buy in and give you 3,000.

Aside from the "big" prize.... I play mostly the cash games after playing mostly tourneys at first.

I've increased my deposit just over 150% in the last 2 months. Although initially, I did dip down to nearly being wiped out before I "got it".

They also have a very cool affiliate program where people can sign up under you and you get constant action from them and the people they sign up and etc..

They also pay you out weekly on a "cash back" program...where they pay you back some of the rake based on how much you play.

I also like the way the layout is set up. If your graphics card can handle it you can have four tables, or six tables on one screen w/ no overlap. I always play the two screen layout as it increases the tables played and doesn't have as much "down time" as playing only one table.

If anyone is interested - I give you my affilliate code for sing up. It's kind of nice when people sign up under you to see money going into your account for simply getting people to sign up under you.

oh yeah - Gus is on the site a lot. I've played against him already like 4 times. Kind of cool talking to him and having him answer questions. He gives out like 25 bucks to some lucky stiff at every table he plays too.

hey Thump it just hit me that partypoker.net IS A FREE PLAY SITE ONLY........i remember seeing a commercial and it said "this is not a gambling web site", and i remember thinking "what the hell?".........dude if you just want to get your feet wet, and gain some experience you can play absolute poker, and deposit as little as $15 and play $0.10-$0.20 (maybe lower, not sure)...........poker stars has super low limits too $0.02-$0.04, but a $50 minimum..........i think party poker's minimum table is $1-$2...........i think poker room's minimum is $10, but not sure what the lowest limit is.................most of the sites have really low tournament buy ins like $1-$2 and lots of freerolls (free tourneys with cash prizes) too.............good luck if you decide to take the plunge

i love texas hold em. i play maybe two tournaments a week live action in person, no internet involved. small time tourneys but still fun. i think the biggest i played in had 54 people at the start.

try getting into a local tournement or starting one of your own. my county had all the good tournaments get warning letters from the man but they still go on, just in more private clubs and settings.
Now that this was brought up again and I missed it the first time around. I played in these "casino night" tourneys and always had fun during the summer. But now they never advertise anymore and hard to find out where they have gone. I prefer the live game to online any day, but I love the social aspect of poker and the interaction of the players to determine tells.

Let me know when the next one is so I can see if I can escape from my woman and get to it.

Now about online, I like Pokerstars and Pacific Poker. I have heard way too many horror stories about Party Poker and cheating done on there. But then again that is why I don't play limit games, I play the sit-n-gos and low priced tournies. Which is why I preferred Pacific Poker & Pokerstars. Pokerstars the competition is fierce and is considered the place to find the best online players.

Then I found Pacific Poker since a friend of mine found a website that promotes it. In the promotion you deposit $50 into Pacific Poker using this guys account and you get 500 free 11.5 g chips (the suited kind). Deposited my $50 and slowly worked it to $100 and started entering $10-$20 tourneys and hit jackpot by finishing 3rd in a 700 person tourney getting me $800. Took out $500 and played wildly to win big again. But when I lost the $400 I had left I swore off online poker because I enjoyed the brick & motor games plus my woman was not liking the fact that I started ignoring her during the week when I played. Dang women!

I play almost exclusively at Fulltitlepoker.com. The play there is pretty good and more importantly Full Tilt does NOT support 3rd party programs. I know Poker Stars and most the other huge sites have many live statistic programs that not only track your betting behavior, but that of your opponents at the table also.

For those that want good poker strategy links, check out my website, http://www.cosop.net. Click on the poker links section on the left.

i'm glad this thread got resurrected, i was hoping it would keep going, it was a good thread

thx for the info about pokerchamps BUCKS.........i saw an add for that the other day, but it wasn't on the "poker listings" so i was curious about it.........i just might check it out and use your code.......i'm always up for trying new sites..........BUCKS what structure and limit did you run into Gus in???.......absolute has a pro on their site too, Mark Sief, and he has his own room that he's in a lot, is it the same?

can you tell me how to get that deal? i've wanted those suited chips for months now but just haven't gone through with forking out the $50-$75 that they go for

i wouldn't share my thoughts on this if you guys weren't buckeye fans because you are my competition!.............but:
i've learned the secret to playing online poker, atleast for me PERSONALLY..........i've been playing 20+ hours a week for more than 6 months now.........the high and low swings playing online are much larger and more intense than live games...........the reason is of course because the hands are played so much faster..........this is the pitfall of playing online.........when things aren't going well, they go downhill very fast, and you can find yourself broke before you know it, it's particularly bad if you take out more money and chase to win it back, it all just happens so quickly, and since emotions take over, and it happens so quickly, it's easy to get caught up in it...........add in the prospect of being able to win it back very quickly, and it's more incentive to press even further

in a live game, you may take some bad beats and your stack may dwindle, but it's a much slower process, and it's easier to step back and tell yourself it isn't your night and to just quit

on the other hand you can win money VERY quickly, and it's always accessible...........plus if you're in a cold seat, you can jump around until you find a better spot.........i've learned not to get caught up in those downslides (unfortunately through lots and lots of experience), and cut my losses, and find it very profitable............as a matter of fact if i'm in a seat and the button passes 2-3 times and i'm not liking what i'm seeing, i switch rooms

this is of course referring to ring games, sit n go's and tourneys are a different story

I totally understand that, but to me it takes time to be able to do that effectively. 20 hours a week I did not have, maybe 5-8 hours at most. Plus I love poker, so I can see myself becoming seriously addicted to it and keep putting money I can't afford to play into the account and losing. So I set my own limit of "once I lose the $400 I am done" Now it did take me a month and it was just a slow drain of the money. Like I would win 1 out of 5 sit n gos, and I would either just place in a big tourney or just miss out.
