POKER - Texas hold 'em style online ?

well, again i was talking about ring games, it sounds like you spend most of your time with the sit-n-go's and tourneys, i'm the opposite......i enjoy tourneys, but just choose not to spend my time on them......i'm just trying to say that it (ring games) can be very profitable if you understand the dynamics of it.......i imagine those that lose money consistently online (not that you do) get caught up in the pitfalls too much, it was a problem for me too, that i still battle with but have pretty good control of..........even in 5-8 hours a week, as long as you're not wasting those hours pressing in a cold seat you should be able to win money..........go on for a short period of time and if things aren't really working out, try a few rooms, or just quit and come back, don't press............i can't even tell you how many times i've won 10-20+ big bets in less than fifteen minutes, (20 big bets is $80 in 2-4, $1K in 25-50 for anyone that isn't familiar with the terminology)......you don't necessarily have to catch fire right off the bat, but there are countless times when at worst, i never go down in a room........there is no reason to stay in a seat if i'm losing hand after hand

in other words i just don't waste my time if it's not a profitable room, and i don't sit there forever hovering and waiting for it to turn around, because there are too many times when you can sit down and just start making money right off the bat........if i start losing i try to win it back, but i don't press, i cut my losses if it doesn't turn around pretty quickly........it's been my experience that either you're connecting with the board or you're not, period, either your good hands are holding up or they're not...........and of course it can go from good to bad in a heartbeat, but almost NEVER goes from bad to good...........i can lose X amount of dollars in roomA, or X amount in roomA + roomB, and go to roomC and win back X amount of dollars, and maybe X times 2 or 3, where i would have continued to lose in roomA........obviously if i keep losing in every room i call it quits............i guess playing as many hours as i have online has given me a really good feel for the ebb and flow of the streaks, and that's what i try to capitalize on..........it seems to me that now i can "feel" when i'm gonna start losing and i'm gonna start running cold...........needless to say skill is a major factor in order to capitalize when you're connecting, in buying some pots, and not throw your money away in the wrong situations, but if you're not connecting with the flop and your AA and KK keeps getting cracked, there is nothing you can do about that

this is the system that i've employed and it works very well for me..........for anyone else that plays online significantly, and particularly if you're struggling to make money, maybe you could try to employ some variation of what i've been doing? it certainly works for me...............hope i was able to help

i'm glad this thread got resurrected, i was hoping it would keep going, it was a good thread

thx for the info about pokerchamps BUCKS.........i saw an add for that the other day, but it wasn't on the "poker listings" so i was curious about it.........i just might check it out and use your code.......i'm always up for trying new sites..........BUCKS what structure and limit did you run into Gus in???.......absolute has a pro on their site too, Mark Sief, and he has his own room that he's in a lot, is it the same?
The thing about pokerchamps is that Gus will play all over. I generally play the lower no limit tables and I tell you sure as I'm typing that Gus plays all of them.

They have .02/.04 tables and he is on those just as he is on the 5/10 or 10/20. It's called marketing and he understands that I think. He's also a good sport about it because he gets asked ALL sorts of weird questions...

So I guess to answer your question - no there is no dedicated room to him. He will just join up and play wherever.

Like I said it is a newer site - and they are still at the beginning stages of rolling a lot of features out. But I like the game play and from the folks I've talked to there...they all seem to be converts from somewhere.

My name is BucksWin on that site btw!!! ;-)

sounds like they're doing some good things with Gus's site, i'll be sure to check it out at some point.......that is good marketing too, for him to play at all levels, obviously he doesn't need to make money in the rooms

Are you sure that is even Gus??? Or his minions to allow to market the site as "Gus plays anywhere and everywhere"

Mistri - I know what you are talking about in ring games. But it all comes down to preference. But from my experience of myself playing is that I actually play better at BM ring games over online games. I actually do not like how loose the online games can be and I don't have enough starting money (my preferred 40 Big Bets) to sit at tables with enough money to slow down the ultra loose ring game players. In my opinion that threshold is at roughly $5-$10 tables is where the looseness comes back down to earth.

funny you should say that b/c i've heard different stories of peoples' experience online, mine has always been that it is much more "tight/aggressive"..........people fold a lot more hands, but bluff a lot more aggressively, that was the first thing that jumped out to me, was how many people folded preflop, and being able to buy pots on the flop in lower limits online, where at the casino everybody wants to see the flop and more people want to stay in when they have no business........maybe it depends on where you play your live games, the casino near my house is super loose.........the general casino player at my local casino is absolutely clueless compared to the general online player in my experience.......it's not uncommon for 4-5 people in a hand to check it all the way around in each round at the casino, but that almost NEVER happens online.........the other thing i've heard is that you can't bluff online b/c people will call with anything, i've found the opposite to be true, strange huh?

btw my post wasn't only directed at you, i don't want to make you feel like i'm trying to single you out and lecture you, i'm simply laying out the blueprint for how i make money online for anybody who cares

regarding the promotion, it seemed kind of cheesy, the last update was in December and i emailed the guy, he didn't respond

so i did a search and ran across this website which has a TON of promotions for lots of sites, including Party Poker, they even have freeroll tournaments you can participate in just for being one of their members, all in looks like good stuff, i already signed up for Pacific Poker to get my free chips, and i'm salivating to start playing there with the view flop %'s around 50%-70%, even at the $15-$30 and $30-$60 tables, are you kidding me? 40% is considered a bit of a loose game, that is just plain insane............i guess that's why pokerlistings.com has them as their #2 site, they weren't kidding about the soft comp

Pacific poker is where i've made most of my money. All I do is play a little tighter than usual. I've finished in the top ten of a few, thousand person tournaments, and I've won about $1500 with only a $100 deposit. I got a little aggressive in withdrawing money and playing in higher stakes games. So, I'm currently down to a zero balance at that site. Party Poker seems to be a nice place too, but if it wasn't for pacific pokers' erratic server stability, I don't think that I'd play at any other site. Lot's of bad players/easy money there.

i made $600 in my first 45 minutes playing $200-NL tonight.........a nice run of cards didn't hurt, but there is an endless sea of fish to pay you off, these guys think they're playing roulette w/ cards in their hands..........i think I'll stick around for a while, why didn't i try this site before? jeez.........the graphics and features are poop, but i can get over it

I have played online for money in Pokerstars, Party Poker, and Pacific Poker. Pacific Poker's real money rooms are stupid because they hand out 'free' real money... it's like an extension of the play tables. I was on a good run there... 600+ playing their multi-table buy in tournaments before I got sick of getting all in calls with 1200$ on the line with 6 high and losing.

Party Poker was the inception of my online poker playing. I played the 10 + 1 tournaments, and cashed out over 400$ before I lost the remaining money I left in. By then, I had already found Pokerstars.

Pokerstars is good though... though I've had a TERRIBLE run lately. It's tough to stay even keel all the time, and I've got respect for the pros that can do it day in and day out in person.

Mistri - or whoever else,

They just added a nice little tourney game on pokerchamps.com

It's a $1,000 guarantee gus hansen tourney. + If Gus plays and you bust him out you collect a $100 bounty.

It's a $25 buy in and seems to be going on nightly. Pretty cool. Haven't partaked in it yet. just an fyi.

thx Bucks..........not to sound smug, but there are sites with $20-$30K guarantees for roughly the same buy-in, although, obviously the field is much, much smaller in those $1K tourneys, either way would be cool to play Gus.........since i play $10-$20 and above limit, a $1K guarantee isn't that exciting (again don't want to come off as being smug just giving some perspective)

By the way everyone, in the link I provided above, "poker source online", I completed my 250 raked hands at Pacific Poker and they confirmed it within 2-3 days. I should be receiving my chips within the next week. A total of 7-10 days after signing up. Not bad at all.

I highly recommend checking it out, they have about 8 sites you can do promotions for, and you can do a promotion for every site, and receive poker chips, poker table top, amazon gift cards, and other items.

Don't know if I mentioned it but they also have a rake rebate program, where you get back 27.5% of your rake, or you get points to use in their online store, how can you beat that? By the way I don't receive any comp for this.

(edit: i have no idea why i decided to start using proper punctuation and capitlization in this post, what came over me? lol)

mistri... no problem-o

I know you are not being smug. Although, could you point me in the direction of the 20 - 30 K guarantee and 25 buy in? That seems entirely too good to be true... what are the total entries? must be in the thousands.

I don't play limit online...so I am not sure how those games are on any site... I prefer the no - limit tables. I've made 200% on my investment since I've started.... I can't complain. Wish I could get 200 percent for my clients.... ha... I'd OWN Morgan Stanley....

That rake back is nice.... it's one of the reasons I like Gus' site... up to 50% back.... obviously dependent on your play amount.... over time...this is what will differentiate that site from other I believe....

Stocks...........some of the sights that offer $20-$30K even $50K guarantees for $25-$30 buy-ins are PokerRoom, Pacific Poker, Paradise Poker, and nightly as far as i know...........unfortunately i can't say for sure how many participants for each site, but there are also $5-$6-$10K guarantees with only a few hundred participants...........Poker Stars has a lot of good tourneys too, particularly the re-buys where the prize pools are huge for cheap buy-ins, but their fields are enormous............personally i like re-buy tourneys if you can put up with the idiocy and weather the storm cuz the prize pools are huge

wish i could be more specific, cuz i don't even play these tourneys too often, but i know they exist, atleast on those three i mentioned above

also the "prima network" which consists of like 30 sites, which are all just different skins linking to the same network, including The Gaming Club, BetOnUSA, and many more have some good Guarantee tourneys, I used to play $10K guarantees on there for $20 against only like 200 people if I got on at the right time
