Maybe it's semantics, maybe it's not.

Insult? Seriously? You're the one who comes onto this forum, asserts your OPINION, and then gets slightly belligerent when others don't cow-tow to the decorum that you'd like. That's not the sort of "thriving, growing community" that I know as BP.

I'm in Oregon, and that's where these two were employed. In Oregon, the PERS system has a guarantee set on the return on the investment for the pension plan. Unfortunately for this state, the situation I discussed previously is not uncommon.

I don't care if I'm agreed with or not, frankly. But when a post that's relevant to the initial thread topic is dismissed out of hand because it's from an individual with one post, I would say that reflects very poorly on your community here. I'd like to discuss the merits of both sides of the argument, instead of being personally attacked based on number of posts.

Also, I'd appreciate it if people didn't bother tossing out anecdotal evidence as if it's empirical. Anecdotal evidence is all but useless, especially when you're talking about policy decisions that will affect hundreds of thousand of people both directly and indirectly.

Someday after work find a bar you've never been to before & stop in during happy hour. Find two regulars talking politics at the bar, sidle up & start arguing with them.

Be sure to come back & report the results.

Are you honestly comparing a private discussion between two friends to a political dialogue on an OPEN REGISTRATION message board?

If so, I sincerely hope you weren't educated in an Ohio public school. Those kinds of rhetorical mistakes make your past teachers look inept.

Congrats on missing the point and deflecting to the tangential. :clap, clap:

If you're that thin of skin; then you'll probably want to go elsewhere.

You're the one who used the word "community" before. I find it interesting that you throw out a particularly close concept of BP, and then respond to Muck's post as though we're all strangers.

If so, I sincerely hope you weren't educated in an Ohio public school. Those kinds of rhetorical mistakes make your past teachers look inept.

Nice non sequitur.

You honestly think every community is the same? Please explain how an entire group of individuals discussing a myriad of topics on an internet message board is the equivalent of two men discussing politics in a bar by themselves.

Also, how the hell is it thin skinned to ask for EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE in a discussion/debate? Anecdotes are useless in any meaningful policy conversation.

And if I were going to go off on a tangent, I would ask why you use semi colons; for; no; grammatical; reason.

Hmm... yeah... no.

Here's the deal, no one has insulted you, they have disagreed with you...

Let's move on... if you don't like the particular environment here, that's cool.

Back on topic.

Am I comparing political discussions in a public forum between individuals who are generally well known to each other & their likely reaction to a complete stranger who blunders in with an obvious chip on his shoulder?

If so, I sincerely hope you weren't educated in an Ohio public school. Those kinds of rhetorical mistakes make your past teachers look inept.

Nope I got stuck in one of those evil parochial schools that generally outperform their public cohorts in every conceivably metric.

Would you like to compare educational resumes?

An insult.

No it isn't.

On the other hand, something along the lines of... "Wow you're a bit of a dimwitted mouth breather aren't you?" ...would have been an insult.

Ahh and a typo nazi to boot (now there's some Irony ORD can appreciate)! You really are a walking 'net stereotype aren't you?

You stumble into a political thread, get upset when people react with "who in the hell is this guy" and then stand up & begin to lecture about what a community (that you've never interacted with previously) is or is not.

If you want to be taken seriously then stop behaving like a troll.
