Porter Gustin (failer of PED tests)

That is my point- as far as I know literally everyone in the NFL is in that middle ground. The fact that this kid has to go to these extremes makes me think he doesn’t have much of a career in the NFL ahead of him.

My apologies for saying it in a mean/sarcastic way.

I get where you are coming from, I just see it a bit differently. To me, it seems like a guy who desperately wants to succeed and be the best and is willing to subject himself to this in that pursuit.

I guess I don't really see it any differently than a guy like John Simon who works harder than anyone else in the weight room because he wants to the best he can be.

I don’t see them as the same because of the massive difference between the things John Simon did versus the things this kid is doing.

There is dedicated athlete and then there is mentally deranged.

I think Tom Brady is an interesting middle ground of a guy who does some reportedly strange things to maintain himself... but even he isn’t this far out there.

Yeah...Gustin's regimen is certainly out there. But if it works for him, so be it....no matter how gross and weird it is.

This.

Only reason to blend this stuff is because he's not much of a eater and he needs calories.

To me it seems like he's over thinking it. Just chew your food.
I don't think he's overthinking it, as much as he's trying to consume as much calories, and as little time as possible to get back to lifting, watching film, stretching, etc. I know a number of bodybuilders who do this type of diet(not all of the time, but for a number of meals), and the whole point of it, is because this isn't enough time to eat so much food and still get in a certain number of activities to maintain that size. More power to the kid for doing this, but I also agree with the points, that this kid also may not be good enough naturally to get into the NFL, and his extreme measures are trying to give him an edge. This kind of reminds me of the movie The Program. Gustin is like a Lattimer(without the roids), a decent kid who worked and put in every inch of himself into maximizing his talent. But naturally it wasn't enough, so he needed "something extra" to make up the gap. While a guy like Alvin Mack had God given ability and didn't need to go to such measures because he already had speed, instincts, strength, etc. I'm sure there are a number of guys on the USC defense who are blessed with talent like that, and are repulsed by what Gustin has to do, because they know they don't have to go through the same. But I'm sure they have a high respect level for a guy willing to do so much for his scholarship

Oh no doubt...Most do it because they get too full to eat the food physically. Typically people can drink more than they eat. Still a very extreme way to do it.

If it was me I'd eat 4 meals and then pound 2 mass builder shakes. Just nasty what he's doing but you cant doubt his dedication

I'm in full agreement there!
Great amount of dedication, and I guess who are we to judge if he makes his dream of getting to the NFL(hypothetical question, and not targeted at you or any BPer)? It's also interesting how Justin Hilliard was ranked one spot ahead of Gustin coming out of HS, and both have had some injury plagued careers in college. Best of luck to Porter this season
