Withrow head coach Charles “Doc” Gamble is blessed with a ton of upper class talent heading into next season. After finishing the ‘04 regular season a perfect 10-0 Withrow was defeated in the playoffs by a mere point. Withrow plans to make a run at the state title this year and Coach Gamble knows they have the players to do it. He believes that over the next two seasons Withrow could potentially place up to 21 players at division one or division two football programs. Today we will profile three of the Tigers returning leaders that are sure to become some of the most heavily recruited prospects in southwest Ohio: Robert Williams (CB), Kallen Wade (DE), and Shawn Redd (OLB/S).

Robert Williams:

Cornerback
Height: 5’11
Weight: 165
Forty: 4.4

Odds and Ends:

Williams had 12 interceptions returning 4 for touchdowns the past two seasons. As a sophomore he had a game in which he had 5 interceptions (state record) returning 3 for touchdowns. Williams was named all conference the last two years.

Coaches Takes:

“He has extraordinary gifts.”

“When the ball goes up he becomes a receiver.”

“He has the best hand eye co-ordination that I have ever seen.”

“He is even tough to throw on in practice. You just do not throw to his side.”

“He will come up and hit you too. He supports the run extremely well.”

Recruiting Notes:

Boston College, Illinois and Kentucky have offered. Ohio State, Minnesota, Connecticut, Cincinnati and Notre Dame are also showing a strong interest. Williams was one of the selected few in attendance at the Ohio State junior day, and he will attend the senior advance camp at Ohio State.

Kallen Wade:

Defensive End
Height: 6’5
Weight: 220
Forty: 4.7

Odds and Ends:

Kallen had 13 sacks last season. He runs the 400m in track. He was named to the All-Ohio, All-City, and All-Conference teams last season.

Coaches Takes:

“He is a great athlete.”

“He is smart. He currently holds a 3.8 grade point average.”

“He has a motor that does not stop.”

“I would not be surprised if he is the number one prospect from this area.”

Recruiting Notes:

Wade holds offers from Illinois, Notre Dame, Boston College, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Miami (OH) and Akron. Even though they have not extended an offer Ohio State is still planning on keeping in close contact with Kallen. He also attended the junior day at Ohio State, and like his teammates will attend the senior advance camp.

Shawn Redd:

Outside Linebacker / Safety
Height: 5’11
Weight: 205
Forty: 4.68

Odds and Ends:

Redd led the team in tackles the past two seasons, racking up over 100 tackles in each year. He led the team in tackles his sophomore year after not even getting the start until the fourth game. In a game last season Redd had 12 unassisted tackles. He was the team mvp on defense two years in a row.

Coaches Takes:

“He is the best. He is our best football player.”

“When they see it on paper they say he may be a little too short, but when they see him in person they say we gotta stick with this guy.”

“He has unbelievable instincts.”

“He is fast. He is strong. He is a blue chip prospect there is no doubt about it.”

Recruiting Notes:

Redd is receiving interest from most of the schools that are recruiting Williams and Wade. At this time Redd has no written offers, but Kentucky has really been coming on strong as of late.

Withrow is no doubt a very talented team...but Jackson is the team from southeast Ohio that beat them in the playoffs. All I am saying is that people need to start realizing that there is some pretty good football being played in southeast Ohio.
