Program in turmoil (maybe not)

Has Matta been putting in less effort with the team lately due to his medical issues? I doubt he is nearly as involved as he'd like to be or used to be. It sucks that he is in a bad way, but I can't help but think that a lack of projected leadership due to the handicap is a major factor. Build an Iron Man suit for the guy, or explore other options. Those are my two suggestions.

I'd be surprised if it were an effort issue, but his limited mobility could certainly be curtailing his ability to teach by example.

Its funny people just want to focus on the transfers stats but not care that the conference record has gotten bad and we've only won one big tournament game in 3 years now. Right now we have 8 players on scholarship on the team. better not hope we see alot of injuries.
That conference has also improved significantly over the last 2 seasons. Maryland was a force this season, Indiana finally had things click for them, MSU was the juggernaut they always are, Michigan was good when playing inspired, Wisconsin had a solid year, Purdue played much better than I thought they would, Iowa had a solid season but faded later.

As others have stated, Ohio State is not a basketball school. Their recent run of success has been historic in terms of winning %, and post season tourney success.. At the end of the day, Ohio State is no Kansas/UNC/Duke when it comes to basketball and the expectation that they should be is setting yourself up for a constant letdown.

That and you always could use a backup PG for example for if one player is in foul trouble alot. Basketball recruiting isn't like football recruiting where players get recruited over just to get recruited over.

Well one of us has coached kids that became scholarship basketball players and one of us hasn't. I can assure you that basketball players get recruited over all the time for a variety of reasons.

John Wooden won't be walking through that door if Matta is let go. Matta is respected by his peers and I doubt we get any high profile coach if Matta is forced out.

Agreed. And for that matter, why would he be forced out? If guys who didn't produce and earn more PT are upset about that, then I applaud Thad for being honest and them choosing the door as a result. Quite frankly, it won't be that difficult to replace the three transfers.

He's one of the highest paid coaches in the NCAA because he's earned the paycheck. That still doesn't change the fact that Ohio State isn't a basketball school. They are also one of, if not, the highest revenue generating schools in the nation. They can afford to pay a coach who's managed to win 20 games a season for a decade straight. They had a down year this year, and still managed 20 wins.

Once again, take off your "Ohio State is supposed to be in the Final Four every year" shades.
