Ughhh, FML...Who you telling?

Another 7:30am wake up for an 8am kickoff.

0500 wakeup for a 0600 kickoff. I used to loathe that when I first got here, but now I love it. When we have a noon EST kickoff and Hawaii plays at home, I literally have college football from 6 in da moanin' until after 9 at night...

I think he means a noon game for Ohio State means a 9am game on the west coast for an OSU fan.

Yes, thanks C.

To be more clear we would drive up to LA on Friday night & get a hotel room (usually at the Beverly Hills or the Hilton). We'd wake up to watch an east coast at 9 AM (Noon EST) and watch it in bed. If Ohio State or Auburn (wife's alma mater) wasn't on we'd watch whichever Big Ten or SEC game was being broadcast. After the game we'd get some lunch and then head over to the Coliseum or Rose Bowl depending on which local team was playing (or had the more interesting opponent). UCLA & USC were never sellouts and you could always get walk up tickets on game day.

My gripe is not with the NFL guys wearing pink cleats or pink gloves or pink towels (but I do think all that is stupid too...why not take the money that you'd spend on manufacturing and buying that [Mark May] and give it directly to cancer research? Oh, because you don't get a month of publicity for that.) but with pink jersey's and hats and shirts for the ladies. Like this. Or this. Or any of 100 other non-breast cancer related pink shirts, shorts, jerseys and hats available.

Because they auction off all the pink shit and donate the money to cancer research.

It isn't like NFL teams (or big time college teams for that matter) pay for any of that gear anyway.

How often do you see fellow buckeyes out there?

Yeah, people like the idiots that pay $300+ for a pair of LeBron sneakers ultimately pay for it.

This was all back in 1991. I never saw anyone wearing scarlet & grey gear at any of those games and I wasn't wearing anything identifying myself as an Ohio State fan so any ex-pat Buckeyes wouldn't have reason to give an O-H shout out.

I was living down towards San Diego & driving up to LA in the pre-web era. So trying to find a Buckeye friendly bar never crossed my mind.

Only a few pairs were $300, those were the ones with the built in computer chips that let you track certain physiological parameters while training. The normal versions were still overpriced, but certainly less so.

I'll stick with these

One thing I hope happens, sooner rather than later, is that prostate cancer awareness month, which is September, becomes more promoted. Why don't we have blue outs, or wear blue days? Why is it that men are the disposable sex? Most people are shocked when they find out that men are more likely to get prostate cancer than a woman is breast cancer.

Back on topic though. I really think this home game is a chance for Ohio State to build some confidence on the defensive side. We all make fun of Indiana, but none of the next three teams we play have an offense that even belongs in the same discussion as Indiana's. This week we see a Purdue team who has lost it's offense. They were able to win three games and score about 50 points in each of those games, but the opponents were awful. As the season has gone on for them, the passing game has become completely inept, and they really don't have anybody that is a threat to run the ball. The team is so god awful on third down, that it shouldn't be difficult at all for Ohio State to get them off the field.

On the defensive side of the ball, Purdue's run defense has progressively gotten worse as the season has gone on. They allowed craplace to get 200 yards rushing, and then let Ball get 200 yards rushing. Now they have to face Ohio State, who in Hyde and Miller, have two guys on the field with that kind of talent at the same time, instead of one. I don't know if both can get to 200 yards, but, honestly, it may be close. I expect Ohio State to have at least 300 yards rushing in this game, and pick and choose when they want to pass the ball downfield, which I don't think will be very difficult.

I think this is a game where you see one team that is headed south really quickly, and another team who is rolling on offense, and will be frothing at the mouth on defense after taking their head out of the game last week. This one will be ugly.

Ohio State 58
Purdue 13

This will be only the second road game for Purdue. They were pounded at home by Michigan (44-13) and Wisconsin (38-14) the last two weeks. They had 218 yards of offense (162 passing, 56 rushing) against Michigan and 252 yards of offense (124 passing, 128 rushing) against Wisconsin. Last week against Wisconsin, their two TDs came at the very beginning and very end of the game on big plays...the first play of the game was a 52-yard completion to the Wisconsin one yard line (TerBush ran it in next play for the first TD) and their second TD came on a 81-yard run by Akeem Hunt with under 2:00 remaining and Wisconsin up 38-7. Take those two bookend plays out (133 yards total) and Purdue had a grand total of 119 yards of offense and seven first downs on their other 57 plays.

I'm really hoping this is the week we see the Buckeyes put it together. I'm not asking for some silver bullets performance from the defense. I don't think they are ready for that. But adequate. Getting off the field on 3rd and long would be a good start.

I would also hope to see Braxton completing more of his throws, whether it's because he's more accurate or Devin Smith starts catching balls that hit him in the hands. That of course is in addition to keeping the running game going.

This is how I feel as well. At least we have Movember! lol.
