Purdue Boilermakers (official thread)

THE WORST: WHATEVER IS GOING ON IN WEST LAFAYETTE IS DARK AND ANCIENT AND EVIL

114906_h.jpg

West Lafayette is a barren, blighted realm.

Surrounded by the cursed wastes of northwestish Indiana, those who enter lose all sense of self and time and space. Wandering aimlessly among unending rows of corn, monolith windmills, and decrepit Circle Ks, you may visit the home of Purdue University, but you can never truly leave.

A part of you will always remain. Eternally pulled back to this pit of the damned where you are doomed to relive your worst moments, projected as they are into your subconscious, addled by the stench of wet, decaying pitch. You want to look away in revulsion and self-pity, but you can't; a second-ranked Ohio State team will have always lost to a 3-3 Boilermakers squad by almost 30 points.

It was real. It happened. You can never forget.

Ohio State football is, somehow, 2-4 against Purdue in West Lafayette since 2004. There are "reasons" for it, in the same way that there are reasons that any team loses to another, but given the context in which both teams exist those reasons are borderline nonsensical. The Buckeyes have nine Big Ten championships since 2004; Purdue has had five winning seasons since then.

Today I'll look back into the abyss and try to briefly explain what the hell happened with each loss. I'll fail, but someone needs to take on the psychic burden, and it might as well be me.
.
.
.
Some eldritch horror stalks the woods and fields there. I've felt it, having driven those roads myself. You can sense something watching, waiting, for any sign of weakness or poor defensive scheme. It's there, just out of the corner of y-oh MY GOD NO. NO!

Just sayin': Purdue has had it's share of "trap games" for Ohio State; I was at one in West Lafayette in 1984 where the Buckeyes were driving late in the game for the win and Mike Tomczak threw the ball out of bounds (on 4th down) to stop the clock. We lost 23-28.

Purdue star wide receiver Rondale Moore will not play vs. Iowa; program gives no reason for unavailability

Moore recently opted back into play in 2020 after the Big Ten decided to move forward with a fall season

Purdue will kick off its 2020 season against Iowa without star wide receiver Rondale Moore. The university announced on Friday that Moore would not be available against the Hawkeyes, but did not give a specific reasons or additional information.

Just sayin': Purdue beats #2 Ohio State 49-20 in 2018 (and goes 8-16 since then). After the 2018 season Jeff Brohm (primarily because he beat Ohio State) is the "hot coach" and gets a new contract at Purdue. Brohm and Purdue have agreed to a new seven-year deal worth $36.8 million. The new contract makes Brohm one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in college football.

Brohm has now been at Purdue 4 years and the team's record basically has been worse each year.

Purdue's recruiting hasn't been great so I'll say that they are destined to end up in the bottom half of the B1G West yet again in 2021.

Anybody else think Purdue regrets giving him the $36.8M contract through 2027? Of course the way college football coaches' salaries are escalating, maybe $4.8M a year will be a bargain for a Power 5 conference football head coach in the year 2027.

Your version of reality where that score was 38-26 is much better than the nightmare I remember ending up a 4TD plus beat down. ;-)

No. An emphatic no! I have a buddy who's a Purdue alum and donates a chunk of money to the engineering and football programs, and he (and their entire base) hangs his hat on that OSU win. That was like winning the Super Bowl, World Cup, World Series, National Championship, The Masters, etc all in one game! Whenever me or any of our OSU buddies bring up OSU's dominance, he brings up that game. And it doesn't help that we were absolutely dominated in that game too. Brohm can walk on water in West Lafeyette. Its the equivalent to if Stoops was able to beat Bama, he essentially would set himself up for life. Purdue is never going to win an NC, and they know it, heck they'll probably never even win the B1G west, but on one night in October, the not only won over THE mighty Ohio State Buckeyes, they beat the brakes off of them.

And its one game that sets Brohm apart from Jim Hairball as well....

Forty-one years after leaving Purdue, 49ers' Keena Turner graduates with his daughter

609ece6c8263e.image.jpg

It wasn't until Ella decided that she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps that everything finally aligned. Encouraged by her parents to explore schools outside of California as they once had -- Linda Turner is a graduate of Notre Dame -- Ella evaluated all options.

Purdue was at the top of the list, but when her dad offered to make calls on her behalf, she declined, preferring to gain admission on her own merits while keeping her options open. When she was accepted, she said, it "definitely felt right."

As it turned out, Keena needed only two more classes, one in science and another in upper management, to earn his Purdue degree. Both could be completed virtually. When he learned that he could graduate with Ella, who enrolled in 2017, the opportunity was too good to pass up.

"Once I heard that possibility, I was like, 'I'm all-in,'" Keena said.

Purdue has agreed to a contract extension for head football coach Jeff Brohm through the 2027 season, according to a news release from the school Friday morning. In addition to the contract extension, Purdue announced a $45.4 million renovation of Ross-Ade Stadium as phase one of a multi-phase approach to enhance the game-day atmosphere.

Jeff Brohm critiques penalty-prone Purdue football team after debacle at Syracuse

Purdue coach Jeff Brohm has seen enough.

He wants everyone in the Boilermakers program to stop jawing with referees and opposing players, starting with himself.

After apologizing to his players Sunday for the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he drew in the final minute of Saturday's shocking loss at Syracuse, Brohm took his critique public Monday during his weekly news conference.

"We cannot get any more 15-yard penalties, including myself, including sideline warnings and on the field," he said. "We just have to be really, really by the book and keep our mouth shut and coach and play football."

Let's check in on Purdue, shall we?

Last Saturday they out-gained Nebraska 608 to 476, won the turnover battle, went 9/18 on 3rd down, 2/2 on 4th down, had fewer penalties, penalty yards, and won TOP 43 to 17. It was a historic clobberi-

Oh wait they only won 43-37 against Nebraska, the Mr. Magoo of the B1G. It's the worst 6 point win I've ever seen on paper. They've turned what should've been a 7-0 start into a 5-2 dick-tripping contest. I wouldn't be shocked if they beat Tennessee again in a shootout, or lost to Northwestern. Basically 2018 OSU, but with less talent.
