QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. (All B1G, B1G OPOY, Silver Football, Rose Bowl MVP, R.I.P.)

He might not have been at that level but he would've been better than JT. The SCUM game last year proves that.
I think there are more dynamics that go into that decision than assuming (using hindsight). JT was the leader of that team....I can play the card that had Meyer benched JT the rest of the year after Oklahoma, the team would have lost an extra game due to players being being split (JT vs Simba) in the locker room.

Not necessarily.

Barrett had his limitations but he was more than just the guy receiving the snaps. He was also the team leader and clearly had the mental toughness aspect that we didn't see on this year's version.
What? Haskins didn't display mental toughness when he brought OSU back on the road against a SCUM team JT was struggling with in 2017? He didn't display mental toughness rallying for 14 down while carrying a defense that couldn't stop a HS team? He didn't display mental toughness obliterating a far superior SCUM team to the one that gave JT fits the year before? He didn't display mental toughness rallying OSU from 12 down at Happy Valley? He didn't display mental toughness nearly single-handily carrying one of the worst OSU defenses I've ever seen to a B1G Championship and a 12-1 record? Really?

You can't even use the Purdue game against Haskins because he still showed far more poise than JT did at Iowa when he completely melted down.

Yeah because that's what I said...

But yeah, let's go there.

Leaders grow into roles - Haskins didn't until the Maryland game.

JT was clearly the leader last year. He held everyone accountable. Do you see anyone hold each other accountable this year until maybe the Maryland game? This team has 9 captains. That isn't leadership, that means no one had emerged.

JT was also clearly Urban's safety blanket within the offense. That defense wasn't much better than this one, especially in the middle of the year, but Barrett mostly kept the offense going and he clearly had Urban's confidence when games were close. The offense this year still looks like it's skipping a beat at times. Haskins is so far beyond Barrett as a passer its ridiculous and that's not debatable, but that's not UFM's primary goal on offense and the offense looked really bad at times because Haskins isn't and will never been the runner guys like JT and Braxton were. There's a reason they ran the ball 40 something times last night despite it not doing anything.

Just enjoy Haskins for what he did this year, not the what-ifs for something that didn't happen and can't be assumed from last year. Barrett wasn't the problem in the Iowa game, the defense not being able to cover a TE or RB was. Barrett struggled in the Oklahoma game, but the defense couldn't stop the RPO Oklahoma ran to save their lives that day either.

Every argument that has a basis on looking back and comparing it to something in the here and now has a counter. You didn't see the practices, you have no idea if Haskins was even 2nd on the depth chart until Burrow broke his thumb. Just enjoy what's going on now and be ok with it. Life is too short to play the if and or but game. Besides, that season also ended with a Big Ten title and kicking the shit out of USC.
