QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. (All B1G, B1G OPOY, Silver Football, Rose Bowl MVP, R.I.P.)

Kalabrya Haskins, the wife of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and former Ohio State football star Dwayne Haskins, released a statement Wednesday following her husband's untimely death Saturday morning. He was struck by a truck on a South Florida highway.

"I would like to express my sincerest gratitude toward every loving soul who has supported our family during this arduous time of loss," Kalabrya Haskins' statement reads, in part. "The overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion. All of your blessings have been greatly valued and appreciated. The meaningful touches and impact Dwayne made as a husband, son, brother, teammate and friend is a timeless treasure imbrued in our hearts. I am truly greatly to everyone who has been by our side as we mourn his untimely passing. Our family implores for your continued prayers, yet continued respectful privacy as we painfully grieve.

"My husband was more than a great football player. He had the smile of a rainbow that touched the diversity of so many. He will forever rest and remain in our hearts till the end of time. His eternal love will always reside with us, Ohio State, Washington Commanders and Steelers Nation for eternity! LOVE OF MY LIFE, FOREVER … REST IN THE BEAUTIFUL PEACE OF HEAVEN!"

So I'm sitting here with the day off, macroing my breakfast and getting ready for the gym. Decide to dial up a channel to watch something I like (Just Bombs) while eating. Hasky is on there, and this WAVE of emotion comes over me.

I'm beginning to understand it's for two reasons.

- For anyone who has lost a close family member, especially one well before their time, it triggers that emotion and self reflection. We're again forced to take inventory of the things and people we've lost.
But in this case, you look at the things you turn to in order to help feel some normality in times of loss. A comfort to remind you that the world can keep moving. I've mentioned that before, but for me it has always been Buckeye/Browns football and music.

- But it sucks in another way because, for anybody who has played sports at any level, you'll always find yourself pulling for the guy wearing "your number". I'm sure a lot of you know exactly what I mean. Since Gamble, I'm pretty sure I can list every #7 in order off the top without help. For whatever reason you always have that special gravitation to your number and that player wearing it. Those that came before/during your playing time, and for those that will come after.

I can imagine how Haskins family, friends and his teammates both past and present feel. There really isn't much that can be said which brings a sense of peace. It's just a horrible situation where you have to wake up every day and find it within yourself to keep going. Dwayne impacted a lot of hearts. So many that I suppose Woody himself greeted DH at those shiny gates and finally realized that passing the ball ain't so bad after all.

For me, this #7 threw the deep ball in tOSU history.

Ohio State honors Dwayne Haskins with touching tribute video, helmet decals and more during spring game

Haskins was killed last week as a result of a traffic accident in South Florida

Ohio State honored former star quarterback Dwayne Haskins during its spring game on Saturday, just one week after he was killed after being hit by a dump truck while crossing a highway on foot in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Buckeye players had Haskins' initials on their helmets, there was a moment of silence before the game, his initials were painted on the field and an emotional video tribute to Haskins was shown on the video board during halftime at Ohio Stadium.

In addition to Haskins' name being featured prominently throughout the game, starting quarterback C.J. Stroud sported it on the back of his jersey as he took the field.

Here's a look at all of the tributes paid to Haskins by his former school on Saturday.

I have driven there several times. I can remember two or three times wanting gas because my car was getting low, but it was very hard to find a gas station. 10 or 15 minutes of driving without an obvious gas station.

Some one responding to the original tweet of the 911 call remarked that there's a 3-digit number you can call in Florida and a Highway Safety Org. will bring you gas so you don't have to risk leaving your vehicle. I have no idea if the car rental company he used gave him this information....

This is correct. With nearly 30 Wildlife Refuges in the state there are a lot of dangers to getting out of your vehicle on a Florida highway. We drive the 589 (the Veterans Expressway or Suncoast Parkway) between Sugarmill Woods and Tampa every time we vacation down there. The signs warning of black bears are more frequent than the mile markers.

Pittsburgh Steelers honor Dwayne Haskins with memorial service attended by teammates, coaches, loved ones

Surrounded by more than 100 members of Dwayne Haskins' family, friends and former teammates and coaches clutching single-stem yellow roses, Kalabrya Haskins helped release a trio of white doves over her husband's casket while gospel music played.

The Pittsburgh Steelers honored the life of the former quarterback in a service at Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh on Friday morning. The morning fog and unseasonably cold and overcast weather of the last few days lifted in time for a bright and sunny spring setting for Haskins' service.

The altar of the church was adorned in memorabilia honoring Haskins' football career. Four jerseys flanked the closed casket, one each from the stops of his career: the Bullis School, Ohio State, the Washington Commanders and the Steelers. Giant arrangements of red and white roses filled the front of the church, including a giant bouquet on top of the black casket.

Most of the current Steelers team attended the 90-minute service, including Diontae Johnson, Mitch Trubisky and Cam Heyward. Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and current coach Ryan Day also attended, along with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Kevin Colbert and team owner and president Art Rooney II.

Tomlin was one of six speakers who shared memories and stories of Haskins, along with two of Haskins' friends -- Mohamed Jabbie and Mykel Traylor-Bennett -- agent and friend Cedric Saunders, wide receiver Steven Sims and Haskins' wife.

After the service concluded, Haskins' casket was carried out by six pallbearers including Traylor-Bennett and Jabbie.

As Whitney Houston's "Exhale" played, Kalabrya Haskins emerged from the church and walked down the stairs to meet the casket resting in front of the silver hearse.

Sobbing, she draped herself over the casket. She was consoled by friends and family while one of the worship leaders offered a prayer and a send-off for her husband.

Then he brought out the white doves and offered Haskins' loved ones a chance to touch the birds before setting them free.
