QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. (All B1G, B1G OPOY, Silver Football, Rose Bowl MVP, R.I.P.)

Play calling ruined the 2015 season but we still had enough weapons surrounding Barrett and Jones that year though! We aren't going to go all the way with Barrett at QB! Doesn't matter what play calls were made against Clemson if you can't stretch the field vertically, against a legit front 7 Barrett's limitations show their true colors. I'm here just here being honest, if we get down again like we did against Oklahoma, I want a QB that has the arm talent to make the throws that can bring us back. Doesn't matter how much of the playbook you know if you can't make the throws to keep a defense honest. We can either move closer to Haskins ceiling going forward this year or stick with Barrett who hit his ceiling in 2014. Just look at the 2 actual QBs we played this year, Barrett got badly outplayed by both Lagow and Mayfield! You can't have your field general being severely outplayed by the opposing QB when the other teams talent pool is just as rich as ours. I'm not here to throw Barrett under the bus, but we need a gameplan that utilizes both QBs in big games. We've seen what a big talented DL can do to Barrett when they have no respect of the vertical pass game. Sweeney verbally said in a press conference that our offense was in trouble after watching our offense, Indiana's coach verbally said that Barrett isn't accurate down the field and that they didn't respect that. And what do you know our offense gets smoked the following week. So we can all either keep wearing the scarlet color glasses and ride Barrett the rest of the season with a couple more losses as other coaches are blatently stating our weaknesses or we can force Haskins development and help our dificiencies with packages for both QBs to use their differing skil sets and make this season more interesting in the end. The truth!
Game on the line 4th qtr against PSU or UM.,70 yards to go you really want Haskins over JT? It's not all about the arm...you sometimes have to make plays with your feet besides keep your wits about you.

Today? No. But I dont have any confidence in either Qb to get it done in that case. If we gave Haskins the snaps in practice and in game from now up until then, yes. I think I might take him.

This argument is taken from the wrong approach. Put it this way, if you were the defensive coordinator who would scare you more as the opposing QB and make you guess more on how to contain the offense? JT is great and I think I would want him at the helm as a Buckeye fan but you have to admit that in some ways a D.C. would probably rather face him than someone with a live arm like DH.

It's a tough call either way. As I said, in the end, I take JT for no other reason than watching him against TTUN in OT and 2OT. It was UGLY and I mean UGLY but it was a win. And yeah I realize it didn't work against Clemson.

JT might not have the arm but he has seen every defense imaginable but a D.C. Would throw the book at Haskins. JT did well in 14 because we had better WR, better TE and were pretty good on Ol and RB.

I'd much rather face a pocket passer than one that can beat you running and still be servicable as a passer. Guys are making sound like JT can't pass at all and its just not true. If he continues to get confident in his receivers he's going to light it up the rest of the season.

How many people watch Luke Falk? Kid basically leads the world in passing yet he rarely throws it further than 10-15 yards downfield. Its just the reading of the defense and being confident in people making plays that makes it go. Everyone forgets what Cardale did as a starter during the '15 season. He had the crazy arm but was wildly inaccurate when it had to keep drive after drive going. Haskins may eventually be there but he's not the answer today or this year.

I hope you're right... but we said that last year too. Same aspirations, but we actually got worse over the course of the year. I can't remember precisely, but didn't 2/3 of our points against Michigan and Penn State come directly off interceptions and turnovers?

At this point, I have 0 faith in JT as even a 'serviceable' passer against any other top 10 team. 'Serviceable' passers do not get shut out on a team loaded with 4 & 5-star recruits, no matter how poor the playcalling is. Heck, even Garrett freaking Gilbert put up points against Alabama as a true freshman, playing his very first college game (and for the national title to boot).

All that said, tossing the keys over to a freshman and 'seeing what he can do' doesn't sound great either. That's why I remain firmly in camp Burrow. Dude can toss the ball with the best of them, he's a coaches' son so he no doubt knows the playbook forward and backwards, and he's a more than capable runner. There's my Burrow plug for the day - I'll shut up now.

I love Joe Burrow as well but he hasnt played this year. JT can will this team to win at times and no other QB on the roster has ever done that.

True, but possibly a better passing quarterback wouldn't have to will (i.e. running the ball and taking a ton of hits) the team to win. He'd just, you know, win convincingly.

I do think J.T. is the guy this year; we'll see how it goes against stiffer competition soon enough. Go Bucks!

This was Barrett's best passing game in a long time. That being said, it was against Rutgers, we torch them every year! While I thought Haskins looked erratic in the short to intermediate passing game, he did connect on another big pass play! Honestly do you feel confident behind any QB coming from behind when the game is on the line! I feel confident in some read option plays with Barrett, but makin big throws in bad weather against tough defensive fronts in big time games is what he needs to do. In his last 4 big games (PSU, Mich, Clemson and Oklahoma) Barrett's passing game has been near non existent. It isn't all about the arm but against big time teams big throws need to be made, you're not gonna sit there and run the read option with Barrett and beat Clemson and Bama. Haskins can make some plays with his feet and rolling out, while he's not Barrett or burrow or martell running, he did pick up a 17 yd read option run against unlv. Merely making an argument for prepping Haskins or Burrow while the season transpires. Maybe we can move into a scenario where we can use 2 QBs skill sets in a big game. Meyer can't wait till a 42 point lead to get the back up in the game though.
