DWAYNE TRAIN STILL ROLLING. Your TV has probably told you recently that Dwayne Haskins is actually not very good at football and that the Redskins should replace him as soon as possible. But former Buckeye linebacker Bobby Carpenter is to tell that your TV is a lying-ass TV.
(For the record, the irony that Bobby is also on TV is not lost on me)
And if you put this into context, it was his rookie season after one single college season as a starter, behind an offensive line that rates slightly above dumpster fire, throwing to three rookie wide receivers (to be fair, one of them was Terry McLaurin) and he had to deal with a coaching change to top it all off.
Just take Chase Young and relax.

This should surprise absolutely no one. Haskins' 2018 season was simply the greatest quarterback display Columbus has ever seen. While he may not have the elite running ability like some of the athletes on this list do, his ability in the pocket more than makes up for it. Haskins is Ohio State's single-season leader in passing yards (4,831 yards), total yards (4,939 yards), passing touchdowns (50 TDs), completion percentage (70.0%), and individual percentage of team's total yards (65.9%).
Additionally, he ranks in the top-five in every other category listed above, including second in passer rating (174.1) and interception percentage (1.50%). Haskins ended his year as the Big Ten's Player of the Year, Big Ten Champion, and a Heisman finalist. He was also the Rose Bowl Offensive MVP and ended his career with a 12-1 record as a starter.

The lack of offseason work with a new coaching staff drew out plenty of strong opinions about Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Last year’s No. 15 overall pick in the NFL Draft has some competition in 2020 in the form of Kyle Allen.

We still have to go out there and see who plays better. Just knowing that staff, not really knowing them personally but how most teams do things, they’re going to give both of those guys a chance to go out and get their fair share. Kyle has the upper hand because he knows the offense, but Dwayne knows football. As long as you’re a football player, it’s not going to be hard to learn something new.”
Allen started games in Carolina last season after Cam Newton’s injury shut him down for the season. He followed Rivera to DC after the Panthers invested in Teddy Bridgewater and PJ Walker at quarterback for next season. Allen started 12 games last season with 3,322 yards, 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. For the Redskins, Haskins started seven games. In those starts, he had seven touchdowns, three picks and 175 passing yards per game.
“He’s going to be eager for the challenge to go out and prove a lot of guys wrong,” Moss said. “You’ve seen from day one, he’s out to prove people. … I think Dwayne Haskins is more than capable of going out and being a starter for this team. It’s about how long it takes. If he gets enough time to go out with the coaching staff and show what he can bring -- he’s shown enough to me. … He’s shown me a lot of maturity.”

Landon Collins prefers Dwayne Haskins over Tua Tagovailoa
The Washington Redskins have a unique quarterback situation. What was once thought to be solidified with Alex Smith, until a devastating leg injury, the Redskins appear to remain in quarterback purgatory.
They drafted former Ohio State star Dwayne Haskins with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft but hold the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft, being linked to Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Haskins struggled as a rookie, throwing for 13,65 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions in seven starts.
His teammate, safety Landon Collins, joined ESPN’s “First Take” to discuss his team and was asked if he would welcome Tagovailoa into the organization and if he would help the team.
“I love Tua and I love Alabama,” Collins said. “We drafted a first round quarterback last year. I think Tua would be a great asset to our team but we already have one. I think we should keep the guy we have now. When he's prepared and when he knows what he’s doing on the field, he's gunslinging, pushing the ball down the field and making plays. That's how I see it.”
Despite Haskins’ struggles, Collins doubled down on his quarterback having a bounce back year and leading the team to success in 2020. The Redskins hired former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera in the offseason and Collins believes he is the right coach to steer Haskins in the right direction.
“He's (Haskins) going to be a coachable guy,” Collins said. “Giving him opportunities to be on the field, putting him in the right positions to read the right coverages to get us some points and get us some W’s. That’s what he needs. A great coach to have faith and believe in him.”

Re: In the NFL, every game is a big-time atmosphere. A lot of college teams might have several professional-caliber players. In the NFL, everyone is on that level.
But I was ready. I definitely feel like I was prepared to play, at least not to be scared of the moment.
Just sayin': He may have thought he was ready; but the truth is he could have benefited by another year starting QB at Ohio State. Regardless, eventually everything could work out OK for him in Washington (or another team), etc.
Re: And then there was the quarterback room that had Case Keenum, Colt McCoy and Alex Smith. Being around a veteran guy who's earned his keep isn't foreign territory for me. At Ohio State, I played behind J.T. Barrett. He was a three-time captain and All-Big Ten selection. He broke school records.
I remember watching Colt when he played at Texas. I remember Case at Houston throwing for 5,000-plus yards. I remember Alex running for a touchdown against the Saints in the NFC divisional playoffs in 2012.
They helped me in several ways. They recommended I lift on Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays so my body has more time to recover and I can meet with the quarterbacks coach longer. They also offered scouting reports. Colt would say, "I played this defensive coordinator two years ago and he likes to bring this and bring that." And Alex would say, "I played this corner and he plays this type of tendency."
Just sayn': The NFL is a "dog eat dog" world. All 4 QBs are competing the some starting QB position. I'm kind of surprised that the other QBs were "helpful".
