At some point next year we're all going to miss JT Barrett at QB. I just hope that doesn't translate into a trend. The real question is do any of those records ever get broken....the durability question aside, most QBs with his stats would have gone to the NFL after his RS Sophomore season.

Two points......."most QBs" haven't suffered the kind of injury he did at the 2014 "Game", and "most QBs" never attain those kind of stats. Just sayin'. :urban2:

sparcboxbuck What happened to my ¤cash?

Tearing those records apart, what’s most likely to fall? Career stats? Likely going to be a life time before any of those fall off the board. Like as in literally, a life time. Not mine, but maybe my unborn grand childres’ life times. So, let’s put those aside. Not even realistic to discuss unless we have another four year starter... which I’d argue, unless things drastically change, is the foundation of my argument that the career records will be largely multi-generational.

On the other end, the game records. Those are more likely to fall due to the frequency by which they can be challenged. Some of those could fall, especially TD passes and TDs responsible for. I could see those falling depending on how open the offense is with a QB who spins it better than JT did. Leave DH in a full game pre B1G with the WR talent coming back this in ‘18 and I could see them being challenged. 16 consecutive? That’s a tall order. 89 yard run? Not likely but could happen with someone like Tate. So call it maybe three, max four, could fall if someone has a really hot hand.

Maybe a couple of the season records could fall too, but man... not likely for some time.

All in all, for one person to hold all those records that represent not only high water marks in single games... like really high water marks, but also longevity of a four year starter? Unfrick’n real. He’ll be in the books well after I’m six feet under.

I’ll go to my grave happily knowing that I’ve enjoyed watching the greatest statistical QB ever at tOSU... and knew he was as such while I saw him on the field.

And to top it off, I hear he’s a pretty good guy too.

Former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is looking to prove doubters wrong again

It’s not like he’s ever been overlooked for flashier options before, right?

“He’s also the only three-time captain in OSU history. The next person who is anything less than glowing about his leadership will be the first. But Barrett is the latest case study in how little NFL teams care about any of that.”
    -Alex Kirshner, SB Nation

Raise your hand if you expect J.T. Barrett to be a first ballot NFL Hall of Famer. Anyone? Ok, how about raise your hand if you expect J.T. Barrett to be an All-Pro. A starter? Make the league at all? Still not many hands raised?

Well, you may be right, but you also might be providing the most decorated quarterback in Ohio State and Big Ten history with a little extra motivation as he plans to prove people wrong, yet again.

As Kirshner notes in his article, Barrett has been dealing with being overlooked and second-guessed his entire career. Whether it was playing second-fiddle to Cardale Jones following the National Championship, or the avalanche of deafening tweets from Buckeye Nation for Urban Meyer to ride Dwayne Haskins into the postseason last year, Barrett has had to prove himself, to everyone, at every imaginable turn.

And with analysts like ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. predicting Barrett will go undrafted, the QB is ready for the challenge, yet again.

“There’s a lot of hype into the draft and workouts and I think that’s very important, but also understand that’s when the work begins,” he said during his NFL Combine media availability. “You’ve got to go out and make sure you make that 53-man roster when the time comes.”

While the NFL Network’s Mike Mayock says that he sees Barrett as “an ideal backup or third quarterback” who can “play in the league for a lot of years,” it’s going to be an uphill climb.

Is JT the most decorated Buckeye ever?

  11. Jaxbuck

    Jaxbuck I hate tsun

Jack Nicklaus and Jesse Owens might be more decorated overall outside of football.

    Archie's 2 Heismans in football

    Katie Smith?

Interesting question. I guess we'd have to start by defining "decorated".

If we are talking college only accomplishments, maybe. Kinda hard without getting the Heisman to say so though.

If we are including the pro accomplishments as well, the list starts with Jesse Owens and Jack....

Michigan dedicated a shrine to Jesse outside of their track stadium to honor the greatest performance in the history of sports (that took place there).

The fact that he owned Hitler in his own house is legendary as well, but he's peerless on his college exploits alone (at least at OSU).
