QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

Former Buckeyes star J.T. Barrett set to tryout with Dallas Cowboys

J.T. Barrett will get another shot at his NFL dreams this weekend.

The former Ohio State quarterback has bounced around the professional ranks after being picked up by the New Orleans Saints an undrafted free agent in 2018. The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly bringing in the first three-time captain in Buckeyes history for a tryout this weekend.

Dallas is hosting its rookie minicamp this weekend, and backup quarterback Ben DiNucci isn’t eligible to participate. Because of that, the Cowboys are brining in Barrett for a tryout where he will throw to their recent draft pick, Stanford’s Simi Fehoko, and seven undrafted wide receivers and tight ends.

Cowboys do not sign former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett after tryout

J.T. Barrett had his chance to return to the NFL last weekend. The former Ohio State quarterback got an audition with the Dallas Cowboys as an invitee to the team's three-day rookie minicamp along with former Illinois State quarterback Brady Davis. Both players hoped to make 90-man training camp roster prior to that number being cut to 53 before the start of the season.

Unfortunately for Barrett, the quarterback is once again looking for a new NFL home. According to multiple reports, neither Barrett nor Davis did enough to impress and remain with the team going forward. Clarence Hill Jr., the Cowboys beat writer for the Star-Telegram, reported that both quarterbacks struggled during the camp and that each battled issues with the wind at The Star, Dallas' practice facility.

Following the weekend, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy discussed both quarterbacks and talked positively about Barrett.

"It's just part of the evaluation," he said. "I mean, J.T. was in here last week and had an excellent and I've had a chance to watch him through college and in his time down there in New Orleans... It didn't help that we were outside in the wind and all that with those guys throwing there with the last period. But it gives you a chance to look at two young prospects."

Edmonton Elks signed Cardale Jones today to replace JT Barrett IV, and have moved Barrett to the Retired list after he suffered a season ending injury.

Time to bring him home and start his coaching career as a GA.

He can teach their fanbase how long 10 yards are. I'm sure there's plenty of crossover that are still cOnFuSeD.

:lol::lol::lol:

I forgot all about that and laughed pretty hard, mostly because it wasn't even a controversy, but Harbaugh and their fans tried to make it one. But on the topic of JT, pumped for him. Great guy that I kind of figured may not have an NFL career as a player, but he was such a smart QB and knew the game so well that I thought he would end up a coach. I would not be surprised to see JT work his way up the coaching ranks.

This seems like some reactionary "we need to get people who beat Michigan" nonsense.

Now if this was to replace Fleming.....now I'm listening.
When I saw Birm bring it up, that is a piece of it, but not the entire statement.
He added:
1) Having a QB Coach that played the position
2) JT is gaining great experience with Detroit and may even have an impact in the results going on there.
3) Having played in The Game.
