QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

Rivals - The Farrellys: Best and worst of the Elite 11

Arm Tackle

This is the award given to the quarterback you better not arm tackle based on his build. How can we tell this at a T-shirt and shorts camp with zero contact? We can't really, so we're simply going based on powerful build. J.T. Barrett from Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider is built like a brick and edges out a few others here. His short, compact frame is perfect for lowering his head when needed.

Gholson: Barrett delivers big-time final drive
By Nick Gholson
Posted September 15, 2012

Urban Meyer, I hope you were watching.

J.T. Barrett validated his Ohio State credentials with a gutty, refuse-to-lose performance Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Down 17-14 to Amarillo, the Rider quarterback started a win-or-lose drive 85 yards away with just 4:24 to play.

Fourteen plays later ? with just nine ticks left on the clock ? Barrett lined up in the single wing and took it in for the final yard and a 26-17 victory.

Barrett, showing unbelievable toughness, ran nine times for 59 yards in the drive and completed three passes for 36 yards.

"That was crazy," the 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior said after running 22 times for 119 yards and throwing for 206 more.

"I made big-time mistakes, and I get down on myself a lot. But my team picked me up and won this. They pushed me along the way."

We need to get this kid on campus! He led a 9 point drive in the final minutes of the game. Woody would have been so proud!

Barrett a leader at QB, coach says
By Bill Rabinowitz
The Columbus Dispatch Friday September 14, 2012

Patrick Johnson | Times-Record News J.T. Barrett of Witchita Falls, Texas, has running and passing skills suited to Ohio State's spread offense.

J.T. Barrett can throw, and J.T. Barrett can run.

But his high-school coach believes that what sets him apart as a prep quarterback in Wichita Falls, Texas ? and can do the same at Ohio State ? is what?s between his ears.

Last week, Barrett?s Rider High School Raiders went on the road and ended Denton Ryan?s 25-game regular-season winning streak with a 21-15 victory.

Barrett scored the winning touchdown on a 6-yard keeper with four minutes left. Barrett?s numbers last week weren?t extraordinary: He ran for 97 yards and passed for 84.

But Rider coach Jim Garfield said Barrett willed Rider to victory.

?J.T.?s stats are not what you would call superstar stats, but it?s the hidden yards that you really can?t see from statistics,? Garfield said. ?He just kept the chains moving. He kept our defense off the field. He made great decisions. He ran the ball well, threw the ball well. I can?t say enough about way he handled the game. His leadership, that?s always been the main selling point to the guys who were recruiting him.?

That includes OSU coach Urban Meyer and offensive coordinator Tom Herman.

Garfield said Barrett is the kind of kid who befriends cafeteria workers and special-needs students as well as teammates.

?He?s a very personable kid,? Garfield said. ?He?s got a great sense of humor.?

watch the film yourself and analyze it, Don't Spoonfeed Yourself a generic scout profile and 40 time.

Besides the fact that 40 times are incredibly overrated and unreliable at the HS level, was it hand timed? By a competent timer? If so, that is a Solid time.

It is pretty obvious from his film that.he has the athleticism to Thrive in this offense. His arm is more than adequate for this offense. Rarely do you find a dual threat QB with a big arm, and when they actually have one they usually pair it with an awkward delivery.
