Urban wants an angry team. Does he want an angry QB? I was disappointed in the way JT showed up for the OU game. Everyone in the media was talking about how it was just a given fact that Mayfield was the better QB. I was hoping JT would come out like he had something to prove.

Leadership? I saw none. That's probably my biggest disappointment about that game.

He still scares me because most of his throws today were late. It's like when he had the issues with turnovers it got in his head and he's double or triple checking before he lets it go. Also would like the coaches to tell him running out of bounds for a 2 or 3 yard loss is worse then throwing it away unless you are trying especially to eat clock.

I'd really like this kid to leave Ohio State feeling truly like a success. There were some things that JT Barrett did in the game - little things, like throwing the ball away instead of taking a sack - that showed maturity and good decision making. Few people give him credit for that.

The reason why is because the problem remains that he has a problem throwing the ball beyond fifteen yards, perhaps even ten yards. He looked better today but the level of the defense he faced was not among the top 75 in the country. Even when he had receivers wide open, and I mean with no one within five yards and no one in the line of sight with a potential to intercept the ball, his throws were still off target and usually behind the receiver.

I know that it was in junk time but, my goodness, the offense looked like a completely different animal when Haskins was behind center.

There are a few weeks to work on this stuff and maybe Barrett will gain confidence and settle down. What we saw yesterday was no cause for the coaches or him to be satisfied yet.

They have a saying in MLB that a 162 game season reveals all weaknesses. Meaning obviously, you can have a good stretch but eventually if you have a fatal flaw, it will be discovered and exploited by your competition.

JT Barrett has started for 4 years, the book on him is out and in it's 4th printing. He has a sub 40% completion rate for balls thrown 10+ yards for his career.

There is not going to be any magic turnaround in a couple of weeks. That was Army and it wasn't even their top 2 CB's. I don't believe we will see as big a mismatch in OSU WR talent vs opposing secondary talent for the rest of his career.....and we all saw him still struggle like hell to throw it "deep".

The only hope I have at this point is it looks like Wilson has come to grips with what he has to work with and has decided to perfect the "in the 10 yard box" stuff. He's a pretty creative OC and OSU does have a ton of athleticism. Who knows?

My worry is even when the guy was open by 5 or more yards you'd see JT stare at him think about it then throw it instead of throw if as soon as he sees it. Also they should apply the if he's even he's leaving rule to Parris Campbell and throw it when he's even with a CB on a deep route if there is no safety help over the top.

I get your point, but not necessarily. After last year, getting it right at Ohio State - perhaps shaking off the effects of his injury and possibly bad coaching to becoming the elite talent it looked like he would become in his freshman year - might just put this young man in that category once again. Right now, there is work to do but let's not forget that a lot of big name college team would like very much to have him.

QBs don't make big leaps between their 3rd and 4th seasons (technically 4th and 5th counting JT's redshirt year). Especially not when they're in the first year under their 3rd OC. JT is who he is. We're not going to see a transformation. He's a finished product.

We're also not going to see a change in starting QB unless JT loses another game, probably two. And Urban is handling it right. The coach's decision process has to be based on which QB gives him the best chance to win the next game. It can't be to choose the guy more likely to lose that game in the hope that, by starting him over the more capable player, it will turn him into the more likely victor in a game somewhere down the road. 'OMG, JT isn't going to beat PSU and Michigan so we'd better bench him and start getting Haskins ready!'

The problem is that the coach has to worry about what happens if that move backfires. What if he makes the switch and then Haskins throws a pair of pick sixes and loses to Maryland? Then what? He looks like an idiot and the fans who wanted to bench JT (many of whom were probably bitching about Cardale starting over him two years ago) can just wash their hands and say 'Yeah, you shouldn't have done that.'

I am just shocked that some of JTs bad habits have not been resolved, like holding it too long. I really thought Day and Wilson would get JT throwing on time. Unfortunately, he seems to have the same short comings as last year despite better coaches.

I rewatched the Army game Sunday and tried to pay particular attention to if JT held the ball too long or had any hitches. I can recall only one pass where he hitched at all, and most of the time he was quite decisive with his deliver. He did throw behind at least two receivers and missed a fairly open deep pass. To me, though, there was a noticeable improvement from the first two games...
