QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

Yes, National Championship first, Heisman second. I do care about winning the Heisman. It looks good for the program and would be great for J.T.

As for picking up his game, there are a lot of moving parts that go into the passing game. I have made this comment since I have been on this board. I can't see what the receivers are doing down field watching the game on TV. Are they getting open and he is not seeing them? Were they covered all game? Bad play calling? I can't just say "he" needs to pick up his game. He did rush for 137 yards. That is part of his game.

What pisses me off is that we've moved from a square format to a 4:3 format at worst, but really a 16:9 format, but the stupid cameras are zoomed so far in that we only get that old, old, old super tight shot. So much screen space wasted...

Tech has moved so far ahead. Yet we're still subjected to a 30-year-old viewing POV.

THOUGH FAR FROM PERFECT, OHIO STATE QUARTERBACK J.T. BARRETT ONCE AGAIN PROVES WHY HE'S SO VALUABLE

MADISON, Wisc. — J.T. Barrett was far from perfect Saturday night. Urban Meyer said as much following his team’s 30-23 overtime victory. Barrett misfired on a few passes when wide receivers were open and he threw a critical interception when Ohio State was driving early in the third quarter as it attempted to get back into the game against Wisconsin following a less-than-impressive first half.

He made plays, too, and plenty of them. He even broke a school record. But Barrett did not play his best game for the Buckeyes in this matchup of top-10 teams.

Yet when Meyer strolled out for his postgame press conference, he wanted it to be very clear how he felt about his starting quarterback.

“J.T. Barrett was not outstanding, but he’s one of the toughest cats I’ve ever been around,” he said. “I know who I want behind center in these kinds of environments and that’s J.T. Barrett.”

When His Team Needed Him Most, J.T. Barrett Was There to Lead the Buckeyes to Victory

Be careful writing off J.T. Barrett. His work is not yet finished.

Following his performance against Indiana last week where he completed just 9-of-21 passes for 93 yards, Barrett was peppered with questions for two days about his puzzling decline. He answered those questions with growing shortness, obviously frustrated with his performance and also the constant reminders of it.

On Saturday night in Madison, however, Barrett put all of those puzzle pieces together and out came a masterpiece.

Now, to be clear, no masterpiece starts out as a masterpiece. There is always a sketch to worry about, and that's what the first half was for Barrett.

In those first 30 minutes Barrett completed just 6-of-14 passes for 81 yards and rushed for 38 yards on eight carries. The Buckeyes were forced to settle for two field goals, trailing 16-6 at the half.

But then the sketch began to take shape. Colors came in, contours settled throughout, and there was possibly even some music in the background as Barrett lost himself in this portrait of a leader.

A self-portrait, of course.

Barrett took the ball down the field on Ohio State's first possession of the second half and capped a very good drive with an interception during an inexplicable and unbelievably ill-timed rain shower.

Every great self-portrait includes a person's flaws, and Barrett's was no different. After all, interceptions are impossible to cover up when they occur in the end zone.

But that was just one bad play on a very good drive. The Buckeyes were building momentum and gaining confidence that they could move the ball.

On Ohio State's next possession, Barrett ran, read, and threw the Buckeyes to a touchdown on a 13-play, 47-yard scoring drive. None of it was easy, and yet nobody ever thought it was so tough that they couldn't get it done.

The next time the Buckeyes had the ball, Barrett took them into the red zone once again. On third-and-six, he evaded a sack and scampered into the end zone to give the Buckeyes a 20-16 lead early in the fourth quarter. Barrett threw or ran for 37 of the 38 yards on the drive. He stepped up and delivered tough passes under pressure.

That is the one thing I hate so much about the production of games these days. The super close shots. They want to get as close to the ball as possible whether it is basketball, football or baseball. They are getting so close that on some of the replays they are missing feet on the sidelines that the replay booth needs to see. This is an ESPN, highlight driven entertainment event. Not a sporting event. I guess they want that emotional impact of seeing the players faces, seeing the impact of a hit, the sweat flying off players. They want to get the best view of someone's knee bending the wrong way.

Two-Minute Drill: Urban Meyer Media Luncheon Updates Oct. 17

+ Meyer is very impressed that J.T. Barrett already owns the OSU touchdown mark with still 1.5 seasons to play. The passing game is fine, it will come around.

Just wondering...Is Meyer revealing that has JT already made the decision to come back next year (i.e. not declare for the 2017 NFL draft)?...:sneaky:
