FOOTBALL RECRUITING: 2015 QB JOE BURROW IS A BUCKEYE

Ohio State’s quest for a leader in their 2015 recruiting class finally has some resolution. The Plains (Ohio) quarterback Joey Burrow, the Buckeye state’s top signal caller, has committed to Ohio State today.

While he sits — according to most recruiting analysts — as a three-star quarterback, Ohio State has kept close watch on the 6-foot-4, 205-pounder since his award-winning junior season. Named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Ohio in 2013, Burrow chooses the Buckeyes just days after earning a scholarship offer from Urban Meyer.

HIGHLIGHTS
Burrow becomes Ohio State’s third commitment in the 2015 class, joining fellow Ohioan Eric Glover-Williams and Cocoa, Florida’s Jamel Dean. He chose Ohio State over offers from Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and others.

Contd....

I do not care that he is not that highly ranked by the national guys by not having 4-5*. This kid is a baller and will be a nice addition to the Ohio State football program plus he is a excellent student. Welcome to the Buckeye family Joe :groove:

One of the guys at 247 said that they really haven't seen him in person, but like what they've seen on film. He's going to be at some camp on Monday where they'll get a better look and possibly move up.

I just watched his junior film, and while I always find it difficult when you have such a range in class between divisions he looked pretty darn impressive. Didn't have a lot of zip on the ball, but on the few throws where it was needed it looked like he can do it. Release isn't too long and can get the ball out quickly if needed. Not a blazer, but very surprisingly shifty. Like, there were a few times where i was like

I'd like to say I'm underwhelmed with Joe, simply because he's not a "national guy", but after watching his film, the kid looks like a diamond in the rough. Surprisingly quick with a little bit of juke, throws a decent ball, handles pressure well and looks like he excels under it, does well to get out of tight situations... definetly a guy we can work with. He's the type of guys Northwestern covets and has running their offense every year... and that skill set lends itself well to an Urban Meyer type of offense. Gotta love having an Ohio QB running Ohio State's offense too.

Welcome to the Buckeye Family, Joe!! Hoping this is the start of big things to come.

This. I don't think you need to be all-world elite level talent to be an effective QB in Urban's offense. As brilliant as it is for Braxton to be a threat to take it to the house on a given play, you can win with the right guy who just runs the offense.

Burrow won't officially be a Buckeye until National Signing Day next February. But when he does sign, Burrow will become the first Bulldog since the 1950s to go Ohio State as a scholarship football player.

It's also believed that Burrow is the first quarterback from the Southeast District in Ohio to go to OSU since the late 1970s when Art Schlichter matriculated to Columbus after a standout prep career at Miami Trace.

Pretty neat to see somehow go from that District. Such a rare occurrence. I wish Joe the absolute best.
