QB Joe Burrow (transfer to LSU, 2019 Heisman Winner, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

Great commit! Now that we have a 4 star QB in the fold that could help other positions fall into place. Watch his vids. This kid from Ohio is every bit as good as Waller and the other Cali QB Shirone Jones. He's got a quick release also. Can read defenses.

Did not want to comment until I had a chance to watch his film. Going back to the Alex Smith 2.0 comparison, I truly think that is spot on...Burrows is a guy that is not exceptional at any one thing, but is good at many things and clearly has the heart of a champion. Above-average athleticism, average arm strength, very good accuracy, and extends plays. In the first minute of that film, I saw him distribute the ball, catch a 70 yard TD pass, run for a long TD, and absolutely lay out a LB on a cut-back. He has an uncanny knack to make things happen and I saw quite a bit of Alex Smith myself. I have been on the record saying we need to take a pass-first QB to get the ball to all the play makers we have assembled and Joe may be it. Biggest question mark to me is arm strength, really need to see some improvement there...although I will say he is a bit deceptive in that regard, because it seems he always tends to put touch on the ball regardless and may just need some teaching-up on when to let it rip...at times he really corks it on the run.

All this being said, I am very curious as to why we offered now and did not want to see him in camp first. You know the staff had already seen the film, so I think this has more to do with Gibson than anything...we pursue Waller and once he commits, we call it a day at QB. Most importantly though, welcome to Buckeye nation Joe! I always love to see an Ohio QB come to Columbus....I will be rooting for you all the way.

No clue if true, but some guy claiming to be Joe's brother said that they saw him throw on 247. Again, no clue if true, but also a very random thing to make up.

Wow, I may have to disagree with that. I'm sure Burrows could be better over time than those 2, but he'll need a few years to develop. I could see Jones and Waller competing for PT by their second years, Burrows may need some more time. Like RB said, he does many things average to above average, he may have a lot of heart and may be willing to work harder. But the other 2 have more natural ability and higher ceilings, IMO.

Watch the film of Burrow and Waller and tell me Waller is better? Waller is rated higher but I'm not seeing a whole lot of dif. Maybe it's because Waller plays in a better class of football? And Burrow does not have the benefit of a very good offensive line. He's under pressure a lot! He's just is a playmaker.

Meyer is working to bring a national championship (or multiple national championships) to tOSU. Whether Burrow was his first choice or 25th choice, Meyer would not have offered him if he did not feel Burrow was worthy and could help achieve that goal. To say he is average to above average is ridiculous (or else shows a real lack of understanding of the word "average").
Congratulations to the young man! Look forward to cheering for you.

They have also verified it on Scout that Coach Herman saw Joey throw in person several weeks ago. I believe I've heard it mentioned that Ohio State won't Offer a quarterback unless they've seen them in person, although I could be mistaking.
Cosidering it's maybe a two hour drive, I don't think a game of catch would be hard to arrange.

Joe has played my sons school (Watkins Memorial) the last 2 years and absolutely lit up the scoreboard. To be fair Watkins aint exactly a football powerhouse but they do have some athletes.

2012 Athens 60 - Watkins Memorial 54

CMP ATT YDS AVG TD INT 2P
Joey Burrow 14 27 320 22.9 4 2 0

rushing ATT YDS AVG TD LNG 2P
Joey Burrow 18 117 6.5 2 0 0

2013 Athens 53 - Watkins Memorial 3

CMP ATT YDS AVG TD INT 2P
Joey Burrow 19 27 292 15.4 5 0 0

You're sounding like using the term average to above average is an insult. It's not, and was implied that he will come in and need some seasoning, as does Stephen Collier who was our 2014 commit. Meyer can offer kids who will provide depth, but for all any of us know he could be starter down the road, and he could not be. I'm also happy that he's a Buckeye, but don't act like he's our next QB starter because he committed. Urban wants to bring in 2 QBs so that he has a backup plan in case one doesn't pan out also. It certainly does matter whether a kid is first or 25th pick. I wish Joe the best, but get some perspective. Best of luck to Joe as a Buckeye, and I hope he works his tail off, but he has his work cut out for him when/if we get another higher ranked QB commit.

There is nothing in my post that would indicate I believe he will or will not be a starter. I do not have the qualifications to be a professional evaluator of football talent. If the ranking system has proven nothing else, it has proven that every player, no matter the number of stars, had better work his tail off because he has his work cut out for him no matter who else commits. And while there is nothing insulting about being average to above average (which most would probably classify as being between the 50th and 65th percentile or so), I highly doubt if any QB offered by tOSU would fit that category.
Peace.

As much as I love them because they were and will always be Buckeyes, but how would you classify QBs: Kenny Guiton, Taylor Graham, Joe BausermAn, Rob Schoenhoft, Craig Krenzel, Antonio Henton? And numerous more could be named, let's not act like because they were offered by and commit to OSU tht they're an all American. We get many average to above average guys. As long as he can help us win games, that's all that matters, but Burrows will be providing good depth, IMO, as opposed to guys like Waller or Jones who would/could win us many ball games as starters. Heck, calling him Alex Smith 2.0, is stating that he's average, lol. Smith is good at many things but not great at anything, and that's been known throughout his NFL career. If he can be anything close to him and work that hard, then we have a special guy, but his battle will be more uphill than Jones and Waller'S.
