QB Joe Burrow (transfer to LSU, 2019 Heisman Winner, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

Why is Burrow celebrated and Martell (and countless others who left) vilified? It's a strange phenomenon.

Joe can be a Buckeye again when he leaves LSU, I don't really care. But while he suits up for a possible opponent, he's strictly fresh meat for actual Buckeyes.

In my imo, of course

Burrow conducted himself perfectly before, during and after the transfer. Martell, not so much.

Plus, Joe actually has a degree from tOSU.
Actually, this is a much quicker way to demonstrate Burrow is a Buckeye. Wish I would have remembered that point when I posted earlier.

To be clear, that's not to say you have to have a degree to be a Buckeye. Just a factor to be considered when questioning the "buckeye-ness" of those that do.

If we meet him on the field, then yes, my hope is that he is pressured and sacked all day and that his team gets blown out. Until then, I'll pull for him because he's done nothing to make me do otherwise.

Plus one.

If OSU gets LSU in a game, I hope Burrow gets picked as many times as he throws. There's no inherent conflict in otherwise wishing him success.

Love Joe, root for Joe, except when we play them. I only want him to win the Heisman if we didn't have a deserving Buckeye. And we three deserving Bukeyes so I hope he finishes fourth in votes.
Thankfully with all the exposure it’s a national vote. In 73 we had 3 in the top 5 and I think it cost us a heisman. When voting was more regional.

word of advice:

———————

– don’t swing and miss

… especially not your second time

Wake me up when John ever pulls nonsense like that, or Tate backs up his bravado.

John is beloved because he has special powers and had the misfortune to suffer an injury that put him a stones throw behind the greatest passer in league history. He leaves quietly and after a year that wasn't within miles of Dwayne's, he emerges as the killer we saw in the shoe in HS.

He plays with courage, confidence, almost no front running despite deploying a legendary Heisman campaign at a school that has been trying to find a rich mans O'Korn.

All as a guy who clearly is still a buckeye. Good for him, and may he have tremendous success for decades to drown the sorrows he'll endure at OSU's hands.

Unless Justin suffers an injury, the other guy will just be a footnote in a long list of Ill advised tweets, and a guy who isn't even permitted to play the position. I don't wish him to nose dive like that, but you wonder why he's liked differently ?

Crimony Tate was a bad example. I get it. It was the first qb I thought of. Although I've been working a lot and apparently missed where Tate did something shady or whatever to make Buckeye fans dislike him

Show me one other guy who transferred who still gets 11w posting his game stats with his new team. Its just strange to me is all. Love him all you like I honestly don't give a shit about it that much.

Literally several players per year transfer out of the program and their threads die almost immediately after several generic posts about wishing them well. Part of it is due to Joe having so much success with his new school but its weird that Buckeye fans still claim him like hes a double agent who will throw the game if we play them lol.

If Joe Burrow goes into the CFB HOF, he would go as an LSU Tiger (I know players dont have teams in the CFB HOF). I'm sure he still loves Ohio State and I'm not saying hes not a Buckeye in the Herbie sense by any means but I feel like his kids will grow up LSU fans.

Joe is a special case though: can you think of another OSU transfer who went on to have such success elsewhere? I recall seeing a few posts about Antonio Williams when he made plays at UNC this year, and we definitely kept tabs on Noah Spence at EKU and beyond. I'm glad that BP has the kind of posters who will continue to root for a Buckeye who has moved on, assuming he was a good teammate when he was here and didn't trash us on his way out the door. And that goes double for a guy who got his degree here.

Also... special powers.

It’s a new time in College Foitball..UFM and Day love Joe. In my day Woody would say traitor: ‘He’s dead to me.” Which was my 90 year old Moms first take. My brother and I got her to soften her stance a little.

Look, I'm not shitting on Joe or at least that wasn't my intention. And yeah, I noticed that it seems if a former Buckeye is successful elsewhere people will root for them. I guess it just isn't my thing. I was rooting for Spence more on the life side tbh.

LSU isn't a rival by any stretch but I don't like them. Joe is making them a serious contender and they will likely be in our way. He also may win the Heisman instead of a Buckeye. Therefore, I will not be rooting for Joe. Lol

Is there a single vitriolic post towards Baldwin or Mathis? This is a team with zero other QBs and they aren't even discussed. Partially because Tate was the highly ranked guy, but mostly because of the immature exit.
