This young man hasn't played any organized football since the fall of 2003 so calling him a serious threat for the starting job should he enroll is going a little too far. Best of luck to him with whatever he ends up doing.

Go Buckeyes!!!

I agree, he'd probably be best served to take a RS and get acclimated with football once again.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State?s quarterback competition could become even more interesting.
Joe Bauserman, who committed to the Buckeyes in 2003 but chose to play pro baseball instead, visited campus last weekend.
Bauserman could not be reached for comment yesterday, but his presence adds intrigue to an already crowded quarterback picture.

What kind of a curve would he have to get back to being a football player with the layoff?

Well, I would think at least a half year or so. Drew Henson had a hell of a time getting back, but he was out longer. Didn't Weinke play baseball for a while too? He turned out well, so you never know.

Yeah, but Henson tried to come backl to it on the NFL level.

but he also proved to be a star at the NCAA level before playing baseball.

Bauserman is still moving up to a much higher level of competition that he has never played after a multi-year layoff

Bingo. I'd argue that the step from high school to major D1 college is bigger than the one from major D1 to the NFL.

Will be interesting to see how this all shakes out considering we now have 3 talented QB's in the fold and are very likely to take 1 (hopefully Pryor) in the next class with the big 4 or 5 that we're looking at.

Makes me wonder...if Troy would have dominated the BCS game would his new youthful following be even stronger? It seems a LOT of the young kids liked watching Troy.

Well, here's to whatever Joe chooses to do and hopefully whatever that is, it works out well for him.

If he were to enroll at OSU would he take up a scholarship? I know the Pirates will pay for his school, however I'm not familiar with the rest of the situation. Does it matter if he took an official to OSU?

I have to think that a rule like that (if it exists) would have a statute of limitations, like the LOI expiring.

Dollar to a donut says that if he plays football he'll count against the scholarship limit since he had signed an LOI, regardless of how long ago he signed it.
