QB Justin Fields (2019 B1G Offensive POY, 2019 B1G CCG MVP)

Perhaps he prefers his QB's to be built more like Jared Lorenzen. If Baker was 6'2+ I don't think there would have been any doubt his was the #1 pick in the draft.

 I guess he prefers more of a Lendak-esque build of 6'8 400 lbs. Who needs an OL when you can block for yourself.

This fact was confirmed once again when Sporting News named its 2020 college football preseason All-American teams. The Buckeyes were one of only six teams to have multiple players on the first team, as well as one player on the second team.

The lone Buckeye player on the Sporting News preseason All-American teams is Justin Fields, the quarterback on the second team. A five-star prospect and the No. 2 quarterback in the country coming out of high school in the 2018 recruiting class, Fields committed to Georgia but was the backup to Jake Fromm during his freshman season. After the year, the quarterback elected to enter the transfer portal and committed to Ryan Day and the Scarlet and Gray.

“He looked very, very impressive those first three days of practice,” Wilson said. “Now we'll have to get that back up to speed coming through the issues we're dealing with, but it's exciting to see what you can do.

“Like we said a year ago, it's about as talented a young man as I've ever seen back there catching that snap, so we're excited to see what happens and where it goes.”

Justin Fields is alive and well, it seems.

Fields, Ohio State’s returning starting quarterback, is in Murfreesboro, Tenn., this week as a counselor for the Elite 11 quarterbacks camp. Ohio State 2021 verbal Kyle McCord is among the 20 campers who were selected to participate.

News from the Ohio State football camp has been nonexistent since the team reported for voluntary workouts on June 8. OSU has made no indications whether any of the players, coaches or support staff have tested positive for Coronavirus. There have been no social media posts or videos from inside the limited closed team workouts at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

But it is apparent Fields has left the OSU bubble to participate in the prestigious quarterbacks camp. According to media reports, other past Elite 11 quarterbacks on hand include:

    * Former NFL quarterbacks Matt Leinart, Vince Young and Andrew Luck;

    * Current NFL quarterbacks Deshaun Watson, Mathew Stafford and Kyler Murray; and

    * Current college quarterbacks Fields, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Oregon’s Tyler Shough.

In videos tweeted by Sports Illustrated football recruiting analyst John Garcia Jr., Fields can be seen executing a pair of throws.

Speaking of Fields, Avery has of course worked with the Buckeye signal-caller this off-season. Fields was a counselor at Elite 11 this week.

"Working with Justin this year, it was different because we really didn't know what was going on (with COVID)," Avery explained. "Is he going to play football, is he not going to play football? So I kind of took this opportunity to prepare with Justin the same way I would with someone who was preparing for the NFL draft. Just making sure he is as polished as possible. Justin is a tremendous worker and he is as talented as there is as a college quarterback right now."

There is of course hope that there will be football this fall, and if there is, Fields in year two at Ohio State could be special.

"The sky is the limit," Avery stated. "He could be one of those 3,000 yard passers and 1,000 yard rushers. I think the hope would be that he can finish the season with a national championship and a Heisman trophy. The highest of accolades is something that he could attain."

While Fields' ability as a runner adds to what makes him a special talent, Avery has been impressed with the discipline the Ohio State staff has shown in not over-using him in that aspect.

"I don't think he'll get that rushing (milestone) because I think Ryan Day has done a fantastic job in limiting how much he is running the football," Avery continued. "That takes talent as a head coach. To be mindful that (Fields) is a really talented runner but he also does so much in the other areas that we're going to make him a passer and then let him add the dynamic with his legs."

The throw at 1:09 is insane. On the move, flicks the ball 50ish yards on target.

Just hope I get to see him make some overthrows one more season in a Buckeye uni.

Just ridiculously talented. Not at a "ceiling" yet in anything. And a better leader than Haskins at this point. Doesn't quite have a Haskins arm but it probably doesn't matter.
