QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Another great game today! He would like about 3-4 throws back because he had them wide open. Not to mention the 2-3 throw aways too.

That said if JK catches that pass for a TD he still would have had 62% for 4 TDs and 0 INTs.

He is very good with the ball, he hasn't had to run the ball whatsoever, and when he misses it's the right decision just a misfire.

He made a lot of great throws today too so I don't understand anyone saying he didn't do as well today.

as much grabbing and holding as I saw from Indiana i am sure there was a lot i missed... made me wonder if some of his overthrows were thrown to the spot where the WR WOULD have been if they werent being grabbed.

Couple of his deep throws were just barely out of reach but some of his other misfires were early in the game. He calmed as the game went on though on throwing high

A lot of great commentary in the recent posts. A lot of it would have me worried if I didn't remember Fields is essentially a Freshman in a brand new system...and he's still putting up video game numbers.

I feel that. Fields' play right now is about on par with what I had heard that he is insanely talented, but also getting adjusted. He had a very good game and is off to an amazing start with 13 TD's and no INT's. The anticipation and decisiveness is far behind Haskins but hey, we had to expect that right? Haskins was the best damn QB we've had since I have been alive. But Fields is damn good and I think will continue to progress, especially with the talent he has around him. Very pleased with his play so far.

I think we'll have him for 3 years as well. This is a work in progress. He'll have some bumps in the road vs. better competition this year, and I just can't see him getting a big time draft grade after next year unless he eliminates that long windup.

I doubt we have him for 3 years... what everyone is forgetting is Fields has been on campus for basically half a year. Haskins had 2 years of just practice before he even played.

So anyone comparing him to DH isn't looking at this correctly.

How did DH look early in 2017 as a Sophomore? We all saw the potential but he wasn't as accurate as Fields is now and DH also threw a pick 6 against UNLV. JF doesn't have the release that DH has but IMO he's better in some other areas too. Namely decison making and taking care of the ball.

Will Fields be DH? No. Only because we will not need him to be.

When you have a defense like we will have and an OL like we have you don't go out and throw the ball 40 times.

JF will be very different next season too. We will return 3 starters on the OL (NPF will step right into the line up too), we are seeing how good Master is, will return 3 TEs, and we are getting some dudes at WR. Next season is when we compare them but even then JF will very rarely be asked to throw the ball 40+ times.

Don't think he'll stay for 3 years just because it's so hard for kids to not want to go finish the learning process while getting paid, even if sometimes it's a trap. Already seeing a bit of progress from game 1 to 3, but I totally agree, he will need to tighten up the release a lot and just needs to keep getting reps to see the field faster and faster. Not sure the release can be changed throughout the season, but I'm sure he can start anticipating more and more. that always comes with time.

His touch and arm strength is already there, which is great. Very impressed with much of his game, and it's still early. Hoping that against Miami they go pass heavy early to get him a lot of reps in a game that they should be able to name the score.

The crossing route analyses make too much sense. When you’re throwing routes that close to the line of scrimmage and the opponent is playing zone or disguises a zone and he misses, you’re asking for a pick 6. We’ve seen what that can do when it happens on the road. Hello Iowa 2017.

As far as the comparison to Haskins — and I’m not saying anyone hasn’t considered this — but Haskins had a year under Day and in the system before taking over as starter, didn’t he? As well as another year in the program before that. I think all things considered, Fields has handled everything exceptionally well.

This has been a good page of discussion.
