The fact that Bellisari had a great debut shows that a great debut means nothing towards longterm success.

The other thing that's interesting was how horrible Germaine was against scUM in 1996. Of course, it's just easier to blame Jackson for that one too.

whys that so crazy....

kyle orton is probably a close lock to be first team this year.....and last year he threw for 228 yds/game....zwick got 213 in his first start...

after that....who else stands out in this league/??? i dont think honorable mention all-league or better is out of the question for zwick...

basanez??? mills?? buejter??? dowdell??? whoever the hell the have in scum??

point is....the qb position is down in the big ten and i'd take zwick over any other qb in the league....

I saw a lot of good things that balanced out the turn over's. Troy Smith did good with the opportunities he was given but the performance from Saturday doesn't warrent him jumping Zwick on the depth chart. We'll see what happens this Saturday.

If Zwick's touchdown to Bam wasn't called back I think there would be less "controversy"

Wow Di, that's bold, considering the seniority factor (which the voters take into account, I do believe) and also how much we run the ball. It probably depends on how our record is, as well as the records of some of the QBs (like Mills) who may have flashier numbers at the end of the year.

What's your take on the Ohio State quarterback situation after the first game against Cincinnati? Even though Justin Zwick made a few mistakes, I thought he looked calm and poised out there and made some throws Craig Krenzel only dreamed about making (the 50 yard throw/dart downfield to Santonio Holmes while rolling right comes to mind). I just DO NOT want a Joe "baby face" Germaine/Stanley "give away the 97 Michigan game" Jackson situation again and man it's starting to look like it could happen. Thanks and GO BUCKS! - Mike M.

A: If memory serves, and I'm sure it doesn't, Charles Woodson had more to do with that 1997 Michigan win than the Joe Germaine/Stanley Jackson issue. You're right, two quarterback situations don't work because it always means you have two quarterbacks who can't really play. Coaches will always find one guy for the job when they have two great ones to choose from (just look at the Georgia situation.) For the Buckeyes, I think they'll lose two games because of the quarterback situation and it's not because Zwick and Troy Smith can't play, it's because Craig Krenzel was one of those college quarterbacks who always found a way to make the play needed to win a big game. For a team that lives and dies by the close game, Krenzel will be missed. The problem for head coach Jim Tressel is that Zwick does look like a superstar in the making if he gets more time to work the kinks out, but Smith seems to provide more of a spark. I think you sink or swim with Zwick and accept the good with the bad hoping the defense cleans up any mess.
from collegefootballnews.com, seems that they agree that Zwick looked good for a rookie. now if the fans would only agree....

I didn't get to see the game because I was evacuated from my house and my direcTV by Frances and the authorities (which is absolutely fine, after 6 days with no electricity I'm friggin' back to being human) so I listened to my brother on my cell phone while I was at an apartment with no electricity as my bro commentated much better than coop on the game and I was very confident in Zman. I was impressed, despite not seeing anything. I'm also impressed at how most of the OSU faithful is really open to seeing him play some more. I didn't think this would be so. The media seems to be bashing him the most. The fans actually saw, or in my case listened to, the game and know not to throw the baby out with the bath water. That Mansfield Journal article was pure horror show stopping genius.

I'm really psyched for tomorrow, since its my first game I get to watch this season, barring IVAN. It's been horrible not having power and most importantly not getting to watch the Bucks. 90 degree heat and no AC I'd take with no worries if I had gotten to see the Bucks, who I even went to see in the spring.
