QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

so I listened to my brother on my cell phone while I was at an apartment with no electricity as my bro commentated (snip)

That's hysterical. I "watched" through vrbryant who called updates in from BW3s, have to wonder how many Floridian Buckeyes had to do something similar.

Any doubt at QB now?

I have full confindence in Zwick. He is a true QB. Now is the time to give him all the snaps and the extra confidence by doing so. This is no knock on Troy Smith. He can still be used for trick plays and to push Zwick in practice. But with our biggest non-conference game coming and the big ten opener on the horizon, lets go with Zwick full time now. He on pace for around 3000 yards passing and he isnt even playing full time. Now is the time. We dont want to get to deep into the season and still be using both. Lets go with #12 now.

Judging from Troy's 3 plays and 2nd half no-show I would say the pecking order has been firmly established.

Its still a good idea to get him some reps when you can, as we saw last year a good backup can make a huge difference in a season.

I'd say for now, JZ is the man. He better watch the INT's though. I wasn't keen on the timing when they did bring Troy in, because I thought the O was in a great rythmn at the time. I do hope Troy gets some time at QB though throughout the year.

Funny how we're unstoppable from the spread. We can just bop down the field and score.

Our receivers are so underrated by the mass media. We know how good they are, and so do Marshall and Cincy. Hopefully by this time next week, so will everyone else. I'd love to see the ball get into Bam's hands more, but when Santonio is putting up 160 yards per game or better, its hard to argue with that.

I noticed that Marshall was jumping on Bam when he was in the game and that left Holmes and Hall open a lot. This could get scary for opposing defenses if we have three guys they can't cover one on one and a dangerous set of tight ends. And don't forget Schnittker has very soft hands and can motor with the ball. Zwick could throw for 3000 yards this year at that rate.

And herein is lies the problem. Timing.

I don't have a problem with a two QB system if the two QB's are relatively the same type of player.
In this current case the players are much different and therefore I think the different styles causes there to be a lack of consistency in what the offense is trying to do each time a different QB enters the game.
If JT is going to use Troy, then allow him to continue to do the same things that Zwick is doing such as playing in the spread.
But if you bring Smith in and then decide to run plays that will revolve around Troys ability to move around then I think it screws up the entire offenses timing.

I'd prefer to go with Zwick and allow the offense to get comfortable in the spread. There are simply too many weapons at WR to have a QB in the back field looking to run around.
Holmes, Ginn, Childress and Hall have got to be a large part of this offense.

Are we sure about that? I think he has one career reception.

But, I think we can start to agree that we can be thankful that the Lydell Ross "era" ends this year.
Is this the Lydell Era you're talking about?
V. Cincy Rush Yds Avg TD Long
Ross,Lydell 17 141 8.3 1 68

Or is it this:
V. Marshall
Ross, Lydell 24 90 3.8 0 14

Did Lydell have a bad game? I must have missed that. Sure he didn't score 4TDs and put up 200 yards, but give the guy a break. Yes, he needs to hit the hole and motor. Yes, he's not Eddie George. But after 2 games my man is has a 115.5 per game avg and a 5.6 per carry avg.

I guess what I'm saying is, no, I don't think we can all agree.
