QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

This is the perfect example. One of the greatest Buckeyes of all time. Calls the game as he knows it with great technical acumen, enthusiasm and yet does it without being a corporate shill or cheerleader.
Spielman is also critical of Ohio State in game for football based reasons. Missed tackles. Soft at the point of attack. Reasons that make sense in the middle of the game and not shit like the weather is nicer in Southern California.

The good news is that ESPiN is an absolute financial cesspool. Disney can't let the destruction of shareholder value continue at this pace much longer.
Why on earth is this a good thing? For all that people hate on the network for many of its on-air "personalities," they bring the content. And unlike Fox, they don't need to rely on stupid Transformers graphics to make their broadcasts watchable.

I'd hate for ESPN to go under. And so should every college football fan.

Agreed its mostly the behind the scenes people who will suffer, but its the "personalities" that make the big bucks, they will continue to shed those, as far as the other stuff... they are locked into a ton of contracts for a while, I doubt they go under any time soon.

I think he's saying the over the top WWF style of script writing, bias and manipulation might have to go away if they had to scale back financially.

The demand is too high for there ever to be a time when the content (televising the games) isn't provided by someone.

Personally I think all the production sucks. I don't engage ESPN at all unless they have a game on I want to watch. When I do watch games (on any network) I mute the sound 90-95% of the time.

If they had a simple play by play graphic and plain crowd noise alt-feed that didn't have any of the "expert" analysis or color commentary (or any of these fuckheads talking) I would subscribe to it in a heart beat.

I would also consider a subscription to the X&O channel like they had with Spielman and company for the NC game.

If they don't bring content, someone else will. I really want to see the bastards unemployed. Each and every one of them.

Let them go out and see how they do on the job market. Hey, Trev Alberts. How's that big time job at University of Nebraska Omaha? See you in the BCS this year? Oh, wait...

Sounds good in theory but Herbie has his film career to fall back on.

Growing up, my dad would turn on just the surround channels (or something like that) on the stereo system. Youd' get the crowd noise and distant recordings of the hits and whistles but no announcers. It was phenomenal.
