I know I've been critical of Herbie over the past few years, especially recently, but I have to say I learned something today that goes beyond disagreeing with him about college football or the cliches or all that.

Last week, a young man by the name of Mason Boyd was killed in an early morning car accident just north of Pataskala. He was a wrestler on the High School team and a very well-rounded young man. This kid affected everyone around him and he was a great mentor for the younger wrestlers. Mason's tragic death has touched the entire community and there has been a great outpouring of support for his family, his teammates and coaches and his school friends with meal trains, scholarships in his name, a gofundme for the family.

That brings me to Herbie - he donated $2000 to the gofundme. Say what you will about the persona, the man did put his money to good use. He paid it forward and reached out to the family to offer condolences (apparently Mason was a big Kirk fan too).

Good on you Herbie. #masonstrong

Former OSU coach John Cooper picks his best of the best

Q. Best leader?

A. “One of the top leaders I ever had was (quarterback) Kirk Herbstreit. He was a great leader. He wasn’t no NFL player, although he might have been if we had run the spread offense. But in those days, nobody was running that. He was a heck of a leader. So was (nose guard) Luke Fickell. He started (a school-record) 50 straight games, so you have to put him somewhere in that group.”

KIRK HERBSTREIT TO REPLACE JON GRUDEN ON ESPN'S FIRST-ROUND DRAFT COVERAGE

Former Ohio State quarterback and current ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit is headed to the NFL Draft.

ESPN announced Thursday that Herbstreit will replace new Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden during the network's first-round coverage of the 2018 rendition.

Host Trey Wingo, draft analyst Mel Kiper, and NFL analyst Louis Riddick will join Herbstreit during the show.

"After we talked about my role, I was pumped up," Herbstreit told the Associated Press.

"I'm going to stay in my lane and let Mel and Louis and Trey kind of say, 'Hey, the Broncos really need to do this.' I'll kind of be more of breaking down some of the prospects from a college football perspective."

Say whatever you want about Gruden, he's at least entertaining and not an unapologetic self absorbed dick.
Herbie, Kiper, Mcshay, and whoever else theyre gonna trot out ?
Insufferable.
