QB Rob Schoenhoft (official thread)

Two QB's in Columbus is preferable to one in the "whore," if you ask me. I'll continue to hope for a commit regardless of Sanchez. Besides, you never know which one will be better two years from now.

premium update - ND Rivals
Supposedly this is the update that sounds positive for OSU. anybody wanna confirm?
Highlights:

  • ND is likely RS No. 3 school
  • Decision in the next week or so
  • Ohio State or Michigan
  • ND - Late to offer (hurt their chances)
  • 23 Offers
  • Claims Buckeyes Lead
  • Had some very nice comments about Coach Tressel and Willingham
  • Admits his Junior Season was subpar
  • Wants to compare himself to the other E11 Camp QB's
  • Irish are not competely out
My personal thoughts are...

This is either a young who grew up a UM Fan in Ohio and is trying to make OSU look bad by naming them into his final 2 (and the leader in this article) only to choose UM in the end...

or

OSU has impressed him and early PT was/will be the deciding factor in choosing OSU.

Any thoughts?

That's very interesting. Part of me wants Sanchez b/c it would be a big deal and he seems like he might be better. Part of me wants Schoenhoft b/c I don't want scUM to have the satisfaction of taking a guy out of OH. It's too bad that Tressel won't pull a Carroll on this one.:wink2:

Just picked up a couple of interesting quotes that Shoenhoft apparently made in a ND interview:
______________________________
Coach (Jim) Tressel is very smart,” Schoenhoft said. “He’s one of the smartest individuals I’ve ever met. He was talking about 70 players (at a recent speech) and could recite stuff about them for two minutes. He seems to be one of those guys that will take care of you no matter what.”

Schoenhoft said Notre Dame’s camp wasn’t like other college camps he attended.

“It was a little different,” he said. “Some of the drills I had never done before at a camp. It was more of an evaluation camp then anything else. It was just for them to see who they wanted to offer to and I can understand that.”
_____________________________

My understanding is that it is against NCAA rules to use a camp for evaluation purposes. Not that everybody doesn't do it, but that can not be the purpose of the camp.

I am just thrilled that it sounds like we are getting one of them. It sounds like sanchez is the guy everyone wants, but Schoenhoft has a lot of big time offers too. Also if we get him then scUM doesn't, we have to go thru scUM every year. We would be luckey to play U$C once in the time schoenhoft is here. If we land sanchez we help out our biggest rival. If we land Schoenhoft, our biggest rival gets nothing.

I would like to see us take one this year and one or two next year.

Schoenhoft sounds good to me. If he is lacking some QB skills no problem. He is a big strong kid with a cannon for an arm. He can be made into a finished QB product when he gets here. There is no need for him to play right away.

They are also confirming that tOSU is the clear cut favorite over scUM. But that Rob would be less inclined toward tOSU if Sanchez picks the Buckeyes.

Stay tuned.....we should know soon
It's funny -- the Rivals interest list still has Michigan alone at high, even though that article would seem to put us on top. Usually, when they get an update like that, the list is fixed immediately. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

I would love to get this kid. Big arm and smart. That's important, I think.

Schoenhoft On Final Leg Of Recruitment Journey
By The GoBlueWolverine Staff GoBlueWolverine.com
Date: Jul 17, 2004

Cincinnati quarterback Robbie Schoenhoft heads South, then West, where he'll pick his college ... going back close to home? Here's the latest.

This (Sat.) morning, the mother of Cincinnati, Ohio, quarterback Rob Schoenhoft confirmed to us that Robbie was about to leave (he's gone by now) for a vacation to Cantral Florida, and then connect onward to Orange County, Calif. for the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp next week.

Robbie will announce his decision at the Elite 11, and we'll let him announce his choice himself. As we noted in our last story on him three days ago, Ohio State is the leader over Michigan.
